Public schools will be closed until the end of the school year according to Mayor

The mayor announced that NYC public schools will stay closed for the remainder of the school year. The strategy of social distancing is the best way forward for all New Yorkers and it will save lives. Remote learning will continue until the end of the school year, June 26.

Here is the 5 point plan for the re-opening of schools in September:

  • Every child will get a computer/Ipad by the end of April to be best equipped for remote learning
  • Parents will get more support and coaching by live educators in various languages on a live hotline
  • New digital programming will be created in cooperation with media companies and other institutions
  • Many seniors will be able to graduate on time by June with the support of the whole DOE
  • Comprehensive plan will be developed for the reopening of schools, including mental health programming, protection for vulnerable students and more

Shortly after the mayor ended his news conference, Governor Cuomo at his own press briefing said there had been “no decision” on closing schools in the state or city. Read more here.
