School news – one school closing, two schools moving

Blue School is closing, Brooklyn Prospect International Charter School is moving and the German School Brooklyn is opening its brand new school building.

Blue School, a 2s to 8th Grade independent school located in the Seaport in Manhattan will close after completing the 2022-2023 school year. LREI and Blue School have announced a strategic agreement that  LREI in the West Village will offer admission to all Blue School students for the 2023-2024 school year. Blue School originally founded by the founders of Blue Man Group has developed an exceptional progressive learning model with a strong focus on joyful learning, hands-on learning and deep thinking that will be deeply missed in the landscape of NYC schools!

“Over the past several years through the pandemic, Blue School has experienced a significant decline in its student population, which combined with other challenges has threatened the long-term viability of the school. While the Blue School Board and Leadership Team worked tirelessly to pursue every possible action to put the school on a sustainable financial path, they were ultimately unable to guarantee a future beyond the current academic year. Knowing the difficult path ahead led Blue School to explore potential alternatives that would offer the best possible outcome for its students and families should the school find it is unable to continue, which led to the strategic agreement with LREI. Blue School and LREI are two schools whose core beliefs – about children, learning, growth, and change – reinforce each other. We share the same fundamental values, making this a tremendous opportunity for Blue School families to continue their journey together in an exceptional community closely aligned to their own vision for educating children, and for LREI to strengthen its community by welcoming students who will thrive at their school.”
