Street closures and visitor information for 4th of July fireworks

The 40th Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks will take place over the East River again this year. The show which will start at 9:25 pm on Monday, July 4 and will once again be shot off from four barges on the water located between 23rd and 37th streets in Midtown and another below the Brooklyn Bridge near South Street Seaport. Good spots to watch the fireworks are the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Important information about street closures/no parking zones:

  • Montague St. – Hicks St. to Columbia Hghts.
  • Old Fulton St. – Prospect St. to Furman St.
  • Cadman Plaza West-Tillary St to Prospect St.
  • Furman St. – Old Fulton St. to Atlantic Ave.
  • Columbia Heights – Remsen St. to Old Fulton St.
  • Atlantic Ave. – Hicks St. to Furman St.
  • Joralemon St – Columbia Pl. to Furman St.
  • All streets north of Hicks Street leading to the Promenade
  • All streets north of Willow Street leading to the Promenade
  • John St.-Adams St. to Bridge St.
  • Water St. Old Fulton St. to Washington St.
  • Front St.-Old Fulton St. to York St.
  • Main St.-Front St. to Plymouth St.
  • Dock St.-Front St to Water St.
  • All streets north of Plymouth Street leading to the DUMBO water front

Closures will be in effect at 4 pm and will remain in place until 11 pm. No parking of vehicles on the above streets will begin on July 3rd at 11 pm until July 4th at 11 pm. Both bridge footpaths and bike baths will be closed at 7 pm.

Information about watching the fireworks in Brooklyn Bridge Park:

  • Use Brooklyn Bridge Park entrances at Old Fulton and Furman Streets, or Joralemon and Furman Streets.
  • Bags will be checked by NYPD at all entrances.
  • Local streets will close to vehicular traffic at 4pm.
  • The entrance at Atlantic Avenue/Pier 6 will be closed to pedestrian traffic at 4pm.
  • John Street will be closed at 4pm.
  • Restrooms at 99 Plymouth will close at 6pm.
  • Barbecues on Picnic Peninsula will be closed. Picnic tables and benches may still be used.
  • The Pier 2 Parking lot will be closed.
  • All playgrounds will close at 4pm.
  • The Pop-Up Pool will close at 4pm.
  • Jane’s Carousel will close at 4pm.
  • Pier 2 and the Roller Rink will be closed.
  • B63 Bus will stop running west of Hicks Street at 4pm.
  • Pier 5 Sports Fields will close at 4pm.
  • Pier 6 Volleyball Courts will close at 4pm.
  • DUMBO Boulders will close at 4pm.
  • Governors Island Ferry service stops at 4pm.
  • East River Ferry service stops at 4pm.
