There are so many free outdoor concerts, dance parties, and social events for families to enjoy this summer in Brooklyn! Our overview includes musical concerts, dance performances, and social hours that are open to all ages. Performance series include the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn concerts in Prospect Park, DUMBO’s Live at the Archway program, plus tons of live music, dance parties, and other performances in Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Sofar Summer Music Series | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Thursdays in June | 8-10 pm 

The secret’s out! Every Thursday in June, a Sofar Sounds show is coming to Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 3 from 8 to 10 pm! Sofar transforms spaces into venues for live music shows. Expect local musical artists, great vibes, and a whole lot of community magic.

Every Friday | 6:30-9:30pm

Come join us at Sahadi’s for an unforgettable evening of summer Salsa music. Cuarteto Guataca plays high energy acoustic Son Cubano and Salsa with an old school sound, making people dance in clubs, parks and streets of NYC since 2012. See all upcoming salsa nights here.

Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Paisley Fields was an official performer at SXSW last year and was named one of the best musical discoveries of the festival by the Austin Chronicle and Jambase. His most recently released duet with Mya Byrne was featured on Democracy Now, in Rolling Stone, NPR and more. Out Magazine also named him one of the 20 queer country artists you should know in 2022. Partners Billie and Elise, who recently opened a design studio and gallery in The Shops, will showcase their artists-in-residence on the Art Wall.

The Sounds at Sunset concert series is a series of free music concerts that take place on Fridays across the summer season at Pier 3 Plaza. Maestro, trumpeter, conductor, composer, and arrange Igmar Thomas hosts Jam sessions with invited musical guests.

Cobble Hill Music in the Park: Andrea Wolper Trio | Cobble Hill

After two weather related cancellations, our fingers are crossed that we will finally be able to showcase the Andrea Wolper Trio on July 9th! Singer and songwriter Andrea Wolper has been called “a brilliant musical storyteller,” a singer with “a masterful command,” who “brings songs to life, no matter what their source.” A mainstay of the New York jazz scene, she has appeared in top clubs including the Blue Note, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, Mezzrow, the 55 Bar, Zinc Bar, and she tours in the U.S. and abroad. In addition to leading several of her own groups, Andrea records and performs for other notable artists across jazz genres. Her newest recording, “Wanderlust,” is receiving rave reviews, noted as “an early candidate for year-end ‘Best Of’ lists,” and “an album that “reminds the listener of the difference between simply good and truly exceptional.” Living on the border of Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill since 2002, Andrea will appear at Music in the Park with her longtime trio featuring two in-demand musicians: the guitarist Michael Howell, and the double bassist (and Andrea’s husband) Ken Filiano. Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Our sixth annual collaboration with Brasil Summerfest, a two week long festival founded by Petrit Pula, which showcases Brazilian artists in performances ranging from traditional to contemporary styles! Band to be announced. Noah Lyon, this year’s Dumbo Drop artist, brings his black and white punk edge to the Art Wall.

Sounds at Sunset: Yacouba Sissoko | Pier 6 Picnic Tables | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Friday, July 12 | 7-9:30pm

Ease into the weekend with live music, and a beautiful sunset. On Friday, July 12, world-renowned kora player Yacouba Sissoko and his band SIYA take us on a musical journey sharing West African songs and stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. Throughout West African history, the kora was played as a solo instrument by djelys, or storytellers, whose roles in society were to perform exclusively for kings, nobility, and village chiefs. The songs sung by djelys were stories that had been passed down from generation to generation, and  captured the oral history of the people and culture of West Africa describing social life, cultural identify and  family backgrounds. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Travels Over Feeling: Celebrating Arthur Russell | Prospect Park Bandshell

A special evening of programming curated by Dada Strain to celebrate the release of Anthology’s landmark publication Travels Over Feeling: Arthur Russell, a Life by Richard King. Paying homage to visionary musician Arthur Russell’s timeless genre-blending work, the acclaimed Wordless Music Orchestra will perform Russell’s seminal 1983 album Tower of Meaning. The evening will kick off with a DJ set from the multifaceted music and nightlife project Love Injection, and will close out with a DJ set by NY dance music legend François K.

The Hill in New York Wimbledon Viewing Party | Brooklyn Bridge Park

The Hill in New York will return in 2024, bigger and better than ever before. Taking place July 12-14 in Brooklyn Bridge Park, fans can watch the finals live and get the authentic championship experience on the lawn. There will be a free performance on the evening of Friday, July 12 by a global celebrity talent. Following the Friday night performance, The Hill will be open starting at 8:30am for ticket holders and a limited number of walk-ins. There will be traditional British fare, including the iconic strawberries & cream and Pimm’s at the garden bar. Picnics will be available for purchase. Large screens will show the tennis action from Centre Court. Once live play has concluded, there will be sunset screenings of notable Wimbledon matches from the past. Stay tuned here for more information!

The Big Busk with Citizen Cope | Granite Prospect at Pier 1 | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Calling all acoustic guitar players! Musicians of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in this free concert on Saturday, July 13 where you are the performer. Hosted by Citizen Cope, in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Busk (intr. v) is defined as “to play music or entertain in a public space’ from old French busquer, to prowl; from Italian buscare, to procure, gain.” Clarence Greenwood, also known by his stage name, Citizen Cope, is an American songwriter, producer and singer. He invites you to strum along with him and a few friends at a community musical happening at Pier 1 Granite Prospect on Saturday, July 13. This program is a part of Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s free summer programming. Musicians of all ages and abilities are invited to participate — by helping to select the songs to be performed, and by taking part in a massive, sing- and play-along! Click here to submit a song and register as a performer!

MIKE’s Young World IV: Earl Sweatshirt, Myaap, Sideshow, Stahhr, and Stay Epps | Herbert Von King Park | Bed Stuy

Local hero MIKE has been steadily building a vibrant hip-hop community of like-minded souls at his annual Young World festival. This year the event returns to Herbert Von King Park in Bed-Stuy with Earl Sweatshirt, who has been the voice of a generation and the face of a corner of hip hop for a decade now. Milwaukee’s Myaap joins the line up with her high energy raps, as well as the DMV’s Sideshow. Atlanteans Stahhr and Stacy Epps are also set to perform, two close collaborators of the late legend MF DOOM. Stahhr made appearances on classics such as “MM…Food” and “Take Me to Your Leader” while Stacy Epps made an appearance on Madvillain, and in addition to her own catalog has continued to work closely with Madlib.

Sean Kuti, son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, continues his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of his father’s former band Egypt 80. Lollise, a bold Afro-futurist pop artist from Botswana, will transport us through real and imagined worlds with her rich, multidimensional sound. Rich Medina, a dynamo DJ and sonic storyteller, mesmerizes audiences with his unique musical palette. Also celebrate the life and legacy of Brooklyn’s beloved Ibrahim Abdul-Matin at the first annual IAM LOVE gathering.

Fort Greene Jazz Festival | Fort Greene

Get ready to listen to soulful sounds at the park! The Fort Greene Park Jazz Festival began in July 2010, when musician Eric Frazier realized his long-standing dream to have a jazz festival in his own neighborhood park. It provides live jazz entertainment for families, neighborhoods, communities, and New Yorkers twice annually, typically in July and September each year. The Fort Greene neighborhood has housed a multitude of great Jazz Musicians including Max Roach, Randy Weston, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Betty Carter, Gary Bartz, Cecil Taylor, Bill Lee, Slide Hampton, Toshi Reagon, and Carla Cook. It is the home of many of today’s greats and tomorrow’s future legends!

Open Studios: Fogo Azul | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Fogo Azul returns to Brooklyn Bridge Park for an Open Studios performance, in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. The New York City-based all-women, trans, and non-binary Brazilian Samba Reggae drum line among New York City’s best and most powerful performance group.

Summer Swing: Buck and a Quarter Band

Assuming the weather has held up, we hope to close out our summer concert series in partnership with The Winter Social for our Second Annual SUMMER SWING! Once again, featuring the incredible Buck and a Quarter Band. Buck And A Quarter is the NYC-based string band that plays forgotten gems and favorites of the golden age of American pop and vintage-inspired originals in a category-defying style, described as ‘skiffle meets Cole Porter’ and ‘what do you call this kind of music?’ Since 2014, Buck And A Quarter Quartet has appeared regularly at great clubs and venues throughout New York City, including Sunny’s Bar, Skinny Dennis, Luckydog, Jalopy Tavern, Anyway Café, Pete’s Candy Store, Rockwood Music Hall, Joe’s Pub, 11th St. Bar, Superfine, and more. They appear the third Wednesday of every month at Barbès, have had long-running residencies at Freddy’s Bar, KGB Bar’s Red Room, SISTERS Bklyn, and Jimmy’s No. 43, and have also played throughout the northeast at venues including the Tri-State Jazz Society and The Pennsylvania Jazz Society.

La Sonora Nuyorkina is a contemporary salsa band bringing a fresh sound to the latin genres, playing all-time classics to the most popular hits of today. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Richie Ray, Meridian Brothers & Madame Vacile | Prospect Park Bandshell

Richie Ray – also known as “The King of Salsa” and “El Embajador del Piano” – is a Brooklyn-born musical virtuoso and half of one of the greatest salsa duos in music history. Classically trained, he transforms Latin genres like Guajira, Cha-Cha, and Bolero into a sound uniquely his own. Meridian Brothers will open with their high energy, boundary-pushing music that infuses Latin Tropical styles with a psychedelic and experimental twist. Madame Vacille will kick off the night with her ethereal blending of Afro-Caribbean sounds with other genres.

Created with the goal of giving a snapshot of contemporary and traditional music of the South West Asia North Africa (SWANA) region, Habibi Festival aims to take listeners on a journey of the sounds wafting through the airwaves and living rooms of cities spanning Marrakech to Baghdad. This new performing arts festival is a collaboration between the Director of Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater Alex Knowlton, artist/composer/curator Yacine Boulares, and curator/producer Meera Dugal who are bonded by the goal of creating more joyful spaces for performance, conversation, and storytelling from this part of the world. The festival aims to position music from this region as living, breathing, and evolving art forms – that even ancient traditions are having new lives breathed into them with contemporary artists.

Lazy Daze: Lovers Rock | Pier 6 Liberty Lawn | Brooklyn Bridge Park

NYC’s longest running reggae day party arrives in Brooklyn! Join host Ma Cherie & DJ Jam Central for an afternoon of Studio One, Lovers Rock and dancehall at Pier 6 Liberty Lawn. Presented in partnership with the Conservancy. Come with friends, or come alone — these afternoons are an opportunity to relax, lay out, and do not too much of anything, while a rotation of DJ’s do their thing in the background. We’re taking lazy Sundays very seriously, creating moments for good vibes and good people. Food and drink will be available for sale by Fornino.

Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Jerron Paxton (formerly “Blind Boy” Paxton) and Dennis Lichtman are both world-renowned multi-instrumentalists and vocalists whose musical friendship has grown organically in New York City for more than a decade. Their formal partnership began with a video shoot, Just Cross the River From Queens, at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in 2017. Emily Nam brings her sensorial interplay between color and shape to the Art Wall.

On Friday, July 26, Brooklyn Americana Music curates a taste of their award-winning festival featuring internationally touring singer-songwriters with fiddles, banjos and guitars. Celebrating 10 years, their annual festival curates a blend of internationally recognized and up-and-coming music artists.

EVIDENCE, A Dance Company seamlessly integrates traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word. Founded in Brooklyn in 1985 by internationally acclaimed Director Ronald K. Brown, EVIDENCE provides a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs, and uses movement as a way to reinforce the importance of community in African American culture.

Get ready for a night of soul-stirring indie Americana. Watchhouse, composed of Andrew Marlin and Emily Frantz, produce poignant songs that “redefine roots music for a younger generation.” BlackBelt Eagle Scout, the project of Swinomish/Iñupiaq musician Katherine Paul, will immerse you in the sounds of Paul’s ancestral landscapes, with lyrical provocations of resilience and healing.

The Sounds at Sunset concert series is a series of free music concerts that take place on Fridays across the summer season at Pier 3 Plaza. Kicking off the series is The Royal Scam helming a Steely Dan Happy Hour. The Royal Scam are the definitive Steely Dan Tribute featuring New York City’s elite touring and recording musicians with an opening DJ set by Maurice Bernstein (founder of Giant Step).

Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Acclaimed by the BBC’s Tom Robinson as “a virtuoso live band, grooving together like a beautifully engineered machine,” the Gentleman Brawlers blends disco-based horn lines, sticky highlife guitar, and polyrhythms from West Africa, Trinidad, and Brazil, into live shows that ignite a community-based, improvisational energy. A Design Director at Nickelodeon, Dumbo-based Annick Martin brings her playful, colorful aesthetic to the Art Wall.

Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Tracy Bonham is a classically trained violinist and pianist turned alternative singer-songwriter who rose to fame in 1996 with her twice GRAMMY (TM) nominated album, The Burdens of Being Upright (Island Records). “Bonham, from the beginning and increasingly over time, is a riveting, complicated maker of pop music” ~ PopMatters. Joshua Reynolds brings his PhotoGraffix style to the Art Wall.

Jesse Royal, a Jamaican reggae sensation hailed for his impeccable rhythms and vivid storytelling, will bring his resonant messages of hope, love, and consciousness to the Bandshell. Icons Anant Pradhan & Larry McDonald are continuing the legacy of early Jamaican innovators and setting the sonic tone for future generations. Ayanna Heaven will kick off the night by spinning a set filled with roots, reggae, afrobeats, and funk.

Celebrate World SteelPan Day | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Join to celebrate and experience the sounds and tastes of Caribbean culture! Enjoy the unique sound of steel drums ringing through the air – listen and dance to the sounds of steel pan bands in competition! The Carlos Lezama Archives and Caribbean Cultural Center (CLACC-C) will host performances, workshops, and activities in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy – check back for full schedule and details. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul,  Sinkane, and Ushka | Prospect Park Bandshell

Charlotte Adigéry & Bolis Pupul will transport you into a world of thought-provoking beats and exhilarating melodies. Defying conventions, the electrifying duo navigates issues like cultural appropriation and post-colonialism with infectious synth concoctions and an impressive ease. Known for their smash hit debut album Topical Dancer, which topped many critics’ “Best of” lists in 2022, their dynamic live shows are considered a do-not-miss. Sinkane will open, bringing his signature genre-bending style that infuses pop, funk, and electronic elements with the soulful rhythms of Sudan. DJ and multidisciplinary artist USHKA will kick off the nightspinning a wide range of diasporic club music.

Live at the Archway is an annual series of free concerts and visual art in the unique setting of the Dumbo Archway. Queerchella is a monthly LGBTQ festival that celebrates inclusivity but also amplifies the voices and experiences of queer artists.. The brainchild of Kiernan and Price Troche,  the festival curates an entertaining lineup and revel in an evening of queer art. Live at the Archway line up to be announced. Melanie Hope Greenberg brings her love of mermaids and all things Coney Island to the Art Wall.

Big Summer Chop & Vibes | Pier 3 Plaza | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Sunday, August 17 | 6-10pm

Get your dance moves ready for all-ages Big Summer Chop & Vibes, hosted by African Chop House in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy! In West Africa, a chop bar is a roadside bar/restaurant that serves as a meeting place for the community. It brings people together through food and music to exchange information, ideas and connect with each other. African Chop House was inspired by the sounds, smells, and visuals that surrounded us growing up in African home. “Come Chop” is a pidgin expression inviting friends and family to come eat. Join us for diaspora sounds and delicious food selections curated by African Chop House at Pier 3 Plaza and Central Lawn! Doors open at 6:00 PM and the dance party starts at 7:00 PM. Bring your good vibes and your best moves – RSVP so we know you’re coming! Check back for registration link. These are all-age events, but youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Only adults 21 and over may purchase alcohol, which must be consumed on site.
