Everything you need to know about Mulchfest opportunities to recycle your tree and NYC Sanitation collections in Brooklyn.
Mulchfest sites
Join NYC Parks in the holiday tradition of recycling your Christmas tree at any Mulchfest site near you. The City will chip your tree into wood chips that they’ll use to nourish trees and make NYC greener. Drop off ends Sunday, January 7th at 2 pm. Chipping days are Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7 from 10 am to 2 pm. They will chip your tree and give you your very own bag of mulch to use in your backyard or to make a winter bed for a street tree.
Two more Brooklyn Bridge Park locations:
- Dock Street, between Empire Stores and St. Ann’s Warehouse
- Jay Street Entrance in DUMBO
Curbside collection
The Department of Sanitation will collect clean, non-bagged trees left on the curb weather permitting starting on Friday, January 5th through Saturday, January 13th, 2024 on curbside composting collection days. City residents should remove all tree stands, tinsel, lights and ornaments from trees before they are put out for collection. Trees will be chipped, mixed with leaves, and recycled into rich compost for the city’s parks, institutions, and community gardens. Those wishing to dispose of mostly plastic and metal Christmas trees should remove all ornaments and put them out next to their recycling on regular recycling days.
