The annual English Language Arts and Math State Test results for students in Grades 3 to 8 are out! 46.7% of New York City students passed the state English exams in 2018. City students also improved in math: 42.7% passed the math exams in 2018. Overall, the scores show a jump for the city from the previous year, but the rise can’t necessarily be attributed to greater achievement. Starting in 2018, the New York State Education Department reduced the number of testing days from three to two per exam. Because of this and other changes to the State exams, 2018 results should not be compared to 2017 results. However, New York City students continued to significantly outperform their peers in other big cities in the state on average.

Families are now able to view their students’ scores online via the NYC Schools Account (NYCSA).
