The iconic Riis Park Bathhouse in Jacob Riis Park in Queens is coming back to life! The Art Deko bathhouse was built in 1932, actively used until the 1970s and severely damaged during Hurricane Sandy a decade ago. Construction for the $50 million makeover is under way with rooftop restaurant, ground floor eateries, beach bar, pool in the courtyard, retail spaces, a boutique hotel with 28 rooms and event space. The multi-purpose complex is scheduled to open in summer 2024.
Jacob Riis Park, a popular beach destination for Brooklyn families became part of the National Park Service in 1972. Lifeguards are on duty daily between Memorial Day and Labor Day from 10 am to 6 pm. There are also picnic areas and playgrounds. Parking is $20 per day.
