River Deli | River Deli serves Sardinian brunch and dinner on a quiet corner of Joralemon Street. Their menu features a recipes passed down from the owners’ grandmothers, as well as a selection of classic cocktails. High chairs are available for kids. Cash only!

Vineapple Cafe | Nestled on Pineapple Street in Brooklyn Heights, Vineapple has been a beloved neighborhood fixture for years. They are open all day, serving coffee & pastries, breakfast, lunch, brunch, and dinner in their backyard garden, sidewalk café, or dining room. High chairs available!

Yemen Café | Yemen Café was the first Yemeni restaurant in the United States when it opened its doors in 1986. They serve authentic Yemeni food and are known for cultural and a warm, casual atmosphere. Dine indoors or eat in their outdoor pavilion. Carroll Gardens

Ruta Oaxaca | Smith Street has a new Mexican restaurant with a beautiful back garden. Come for Taco Tuesday, or for tacos any day! Ruta Oaxaca also has plenty of margaritas to choose from.

two8two Bar & Burger | Indulge in a burger from two8two, which sources their meat daily from local butcher Los Paisanos. two8two also serves hot dogs, crafts cocktails, and craft beer. The restaurant is kid-friendly with a lovely outdoor patio.

Downtown Brooklyn & Boerum Hill

DeKalb Market Hall | Downtown Brooklyn | Brooklyn’s largest food hall features over 35 vendors and is extremely kid-friendly, offering free weekend activities like magic shows and face painting (Saturdays & Sundays, 11am-2pm).

Zaytoons | Prospect Heights | This family-owned Middle Eastern restaurant is celebrating their 25th anniversary. They have a lovely back garden in the warmer months. They also have special menu items for kids, such as Pitza Lal Atfal, with mozzarella & tomato sauce with a happy face of veggies.

Red Hook & Columbia St. Waterfront

Brooklyn Crab | Red Hook | Brooklyn Crab offers great seafood, drinks, & games. It’s the perfect place to bring the family, especially on a warm day when you can enjoy the roof deck, spacious patio with mini golf and games, and views New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty.

The Good Fork Pub | Red Hook | The Good Fork serves new American cuisine with an Asian flair. Enjoy their innovative Korean-inspired pub menu and drinks in the dining room behind the main bar, or in the cozy back garden.

Popina | Columbia St. Waterfront District | This cozy spot serves Italian food in their cozy backyard: homemade pasta, delicious arancini, chicken Milanese, and more. They have an extensive wine list and even have a members-only wine club. Stop by during happy hour, with kid’s pasta for $10 and adult’s for $15 from 5-6pm on weekdays.

Hometown BBQ | Red Hook | Hometown BBQ serves Brooklyn style barbecue in their large open-seating space in Red Hook. Order easy-to-share pit-smoked meats and sides for the whole family. No reservations accepted; expect a lively line on the weekends.

Jalopy Tavern | Red Hook | Jalopy Tavern is a restaurant with live music attached to the Jalopy Theatre and School of Music. Jalopy is very family-friendly and serves pub food including tacos, burgers, and sandwiches, as well as weekend brunch.

Mex Carroll’s Diner | Columbia St. Waterfront District | Mexican & American fare is served at this casual diner for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The kid’s menu includes pancakes, burgers, macaroni and cheese, and more.

Red Hook Lobster Pound | Red Hook | Red Hook Lobster Pound is best know for its lobster rolls—served Maine-style (cold with mayo) or Connecticut-style (hot with butter). The menu also features lobster mac and cheese, fried oysters, and more. They have outdoor seating in the summer!

Strong Rope Brewery | Red Hook | Strong Rope has one of New York’s best views of the Harbor and the Statue of Liberty. It’s family-friendly, with food trucks from local spots like Red Hook Lobster Pound, with live music some weekends!

Williamsburg

Aurora | Combine garden dining with Italian comfort food and you have Aurora, located on Grand Street near Domino Park in Williamsburg. To top off dinner, you can get a house made gelato as well.

Afuri | This welcoming restaurant has fresh and delicious ramen in addition to a full menu of shared plates, sushi, donburi and takumen. They also have a dedicated kids menu.

Cafe Mogador | Cafe Mogador has served NYC since 1983, with its original location in Manhattan’s East Village.  They serve Moroccan tagines, couscous, and more for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch.

Casa Publica | Enjoy some Mexican food over at Casa Publica. They are open for brunch and dinner with a happy hour menu available Monday through Thursday from 5-7pm. Outdoor seating is open during summer weather and Casa Publica is located one block away from McCarren park for the kids to run around after dinner.

Cozy Royale | Brought to you by the purveyors of local butcher shop The Meathook, this neighborhood spot is casual and the food offerings are simple and special. Their weekday happy hour is also a good bet with $10 burgers, shrimp cocktail and fries. 

Jack’s Wife Freda | This all-day restaurant is a favorite among kids, with family-friendly dishes like chicken schnitzel with fries. Jack’s Wife has a dedicated kids menu and is always ready with crayons and coloring pages for the kids. Their fare is self described as, “South African, Jewish Grandmother cuisine”. The Williamsburg location is often filled with families during dinner hours of 5-7pm.

Kellogg’s Diner | This revamped diner is open 24/7 and the menu takes inspiration from Texas cooking, where the executive chef grew up. Families will find high chairs, a kids’ menu, and spacious booth seating.

K’Far | Located inside the Hoxton hotel, this all day restaurant comes in clutch for any meal. The food at K’Far is inspired by the food in Tel Aviv, breakfasts offer sweets, borekas and Jerusalem bagels, to name a few favorites. The interiors are colorful and comfortable and there is ample space for kids to move about. 

Mother’s | This neighborhood spot serves burgers, craft beers for grown-ups, and has outdoor seating. Open 7 days a week on Graham Avenue.

Pura Vida Miami | This sprawling and light filled restaurant is new to the neighborhood and focuses on a fresh and healthy menu. An all-day cafe, there are many crowd pleasers on the menu, including smoothies, acai bowls and omelettes. They have a kids menu but there is also plenty to choose from on the regular menu.

Sage | This Thai restaurant on Graham Avenue has a kid’s menu, plus a spacious backyard and tuk tuks for kids to play on. On Fridays, they have a rotating specials menu, and they serve weekend brunch.

Sereneco | Sereneco offers New American cuisine with a healthy, seasonal focus, including grain bowls, fish dishes, and fresh vegetables. Its stylish outdoor terrace is great for brunch or dinner.

Sunday in Brooklyn | This neighborhood restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is a popular destination for weekend family brunch, serving standout dishes like malted pancakes and smoked salmon toast. With both indoor seating and a charming outdoor patio, it’s a great spot to enjoy a relaxed meal.

Tacocina | Located in Domino Park, this taqueria is a picturesque outdoor space overlooking the East River and adjacent to the Domino Park playground. Come for tacos, quesadillas, margaritas, and more. It’s great spot for kids to eat and play!

Tacombi | Yes, the ubiquitous Tacombi is on this list because it is delicious, convenient and very family-friendly. They have a kids menu and also paper hats and coloring pages. Kids will love the steak tacos, guac and chips!

Teddy’s | Teddy’s has been a neighborhood staple  for 137 years on the corner of Berry Street and North 8th. Great food, friendly service and choice of indoor outdoor seating is what you can expect at Teddy’s. It is this writer’s favorite burger and steak fries! They also have a kid’s menu.

Veselka | The East Village Ukranian diner recently opened their newest location in Williamsburg. Come for the classic Veselka favorites: beef stroganoff, Ukrainian meatballs, stuffed cabbage, schnitzel, and borscht. Both indoor and outdoor dining available.

Greenpoint

Bernie’s | Located on Driggs Avenue, Bernie’s serves American comfort food on red-checkered tablecloths.

Cafe Alula | Cafe Alula is Lebanese cafe with outdoor seating in the front and back. Open every day from 8am-6pm.

Club Club | Starving while at Mccarren Park with the kids? Club club has breakfast and lunch options so you can survive a few more hours at the park. They serve an assortment of sandwiches, salads and sides all available to go or you can order to stay and eat at the parkhouse.

Elder Greene | A Greenpoint staple with a well-rounded tavern menu, there is something for everyone. Seating is available outdoors on their street patio in warmer weather.

Karczma | One of the most famous and popular Polish restaurants in Greenpoint, Karczma is home to authentic handmade Polish Pierogi.

Le Gamin | Omelettes and coffee in the morning? Steak frites with the kids? This french cafe is great for brunch or dinner with the family. Located across the street from Ferox and American playground it’s a good landing spot before or after a kid outing. They have a backyard garden in addition to patio seating along Franklin Avenue. 

Milk & Roses | This Italian-American eatery features a garden-like back patio perfect for al fresco dining. Known for its pasta and wine list, it’s a charming spot for dinner or brunch.

Naked Dog | This Italian spot in located near the waterfront park and playground. The menu features top notch bruschetta, spaghetti, pappardelle with beef Bolognese’s, and bombolini for dessert. Naked Dog has both indoor and outdoor seating.

Nerina | Located on Commercial Street, the Greek restaurant Nerina is spacious and family-friendly. Their fresh and delicious mezze menu has something for everyone and an extensive Greek wine and cocktails list.

Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop | Paulie Gee’s is a great family-friendly pizza spot on Franklin Street.

Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop | A 60-year-old donut shop on Manhattan Avenue, Peter Pan is a family-owned business that is famous for its handmade donuts. Cash only!

Radio Star | Radio Star is an all-day restaurant from the team behind nearby Glasserie. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner on their garden patio (dogs welcome!). Plus, cocktails and wine by the glass. Radio Star is a restaurant, bar and cafe inspired by the radio era of the 1940s. They are located on Transmitter Park, the home of WNYC from 1937 to 1990.

Threes Brewing | Casual vibes abound in this neighborhood favorite. Gotham burger is in charge of the food here, order at the counter and grab a table either inside or outside. Standard brewery favs, burgers, hotdogs, fries and the like.

Three Decker Diner | Located at the corner of Norman Street and Manhattan Avenue, Three Decker Diner first opened in 1945 and recently was revamped. Try comfort food items like chicken pot pie, chicken fried steak, burger, sandwiches, plus Tex-Mex dishes like huevos rancheros, carnitas tacos, and a chorizo Tora. Kids will love their banana split!

George’s Restaurant | George’s Restaurant has been part of the Sunset Park community since 1957. Whether you are stopping by for a quick breakfast or want to sit down for dinner, George’s has a variety of options to make everyone happy.

Hawaiian Fried Wings | This popular spot is the place to visit if you are craving some wings. Be sure to try the lemon pepper flavor. They offer mini meals as well as their popular family packs. Enjoy in their small seating area or order to go.

King’s Kitchen | With locations across Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn, King’s Kitchen doesn’t disappoint with their delicious Cantonese food. They have multiple Sunset Park locations, including on the corner of 60th Street and 7th Avenue and on the corner of 53rd Street and 8th Avenue. Calexico | Greenpoint & Park Slope | This family-owned Mexican chain has locations across Brooklyn, serving tacos, burritos, and more. There is a kid’s menu with chicken fingers, quesadillas, and fries, and weekend brunch is serve 11:30am-4pm in Greenpoint and Park Slope.

Emmy Squared | Park Slope & Williamsburg | This pizzeria serves Detroit-style pizza in a square shape. Emmy Square also serves burgers and sandwiches in a casual environment.

Forma Pasta Factory | Fort Greene & Greenpoint | Forma serves freshly made pasta in a casual setting, making it a great spot for families. You can find them in Fort Greene and Greenpoint.

Fornino | Brooklyn Bridge Park, DUMBO’s Time Out Market & Greenpoint | This pizzeria serves delicious wood-fired pizza. In Brooklyn Bridge Park, you will find families dining after soccer practice and watching the volleyball players. At Time Out Market, you can enjoy your pizza on their rooftop with views of the Manhattan skyline. Fornino also has a family-friendly location in Greenpoint with a welcoming back garden.

Table 87 | Brooklyn Heights, Gowanus & Industry City | Family owned and operated, Table 87 serves fresh coal over pizza by the slice at three locations in Brooklyn. The menu also includes small plates, pasta, calzones, paninis, and more.

Talea | Cobble Hill & Williamsburg | The female (and mom!) founded brewery has locations in both Cobble Hill and Williamsburg. Both locations are family-friendly! The Williamsburg hosts Jazz Baby family music classes for ages 6 months to 4 years on Sundays, from 10:30 to 11:15am. At the Cobble Hill location, you can order pizza from Bad Cholesterol (located nearby) to be delivered to your table.
