Storytime will take place before the carousel is open from 10:15-10:45am on Thursday, March 21 and Thursday, March 28. No registration, but there will be a capacity limit.

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Indian dance arts educator Aeilushi Misty for a celebration inspired by the spring festival of Holi. Join the fun-filled family friendly event to learn the significance of Holi and Dhuleti traditions and take part in the celebration with music, dance, art and more. Learn about the ceremonial offerings of Holika Dahan, create Rangoli motifs with vibrant flower petals, and sprinkle natural colored powder in the air to mark the spring and harvest seasons and celebrate the victory of good over evil. This event will be held at the Prospect Park Carousel Lawn area.
Celebrate Holi with Brooklyn Conservatory of Music | Prospect Park

Join Mixed Masala and BKCM in celebrating Holi, the Festival of Colors, at Prospect Park! The celebration begins at 3pm with picnicking and live music at Long Meadow (near Grand Army Plaza). Bring a blanket and snacks and enjoy the free concert. At 4pm the music will change its tune and attendees will be invited to join in the traditional celebration of throwing colored powder. We recommend that you wear white clothing and expect to get messy! BKCM is selling colored powder for $6 per packet for families to pick up at the event. To ensure that your colored powder order is processed, purchase by Wednesday, March 20!

Easter Weekend School Holiday | Prospect Park

Join Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.
- Nature Around Us, 12 – 3 pm: Enjoy different seasonal discovery stations and nature themed activities that will introduce you to the plants, insects and animals that call the park home. The Lake and Lullwater are home to many plants and animals. Help us to test the water quality and investigate pond samples that are filled with living organisms.
- Animal Encounter, 2 – 3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.
- Wilderness Walk, 3 – 4 pm: Join the Prospect Park Alliance and learn about the Great Backyard Bird Count and search for your favorite “backyard bird”. Find woodpeckers, chickadees, and nuthatches eating from feeders along Prospect Park’s nature trails.
There will also be Carousel Rides from 12 – 5 pm! $3 per ride, $13 for a book of 5 tickets.

Governors Island Egg Hunt

Back for a second year, this popular springtime event will have 50,000 candy-filled eggs across several areas of Governors Island, along with an island-wide scavenger hunt that everyone can take a crack at, plus an additional hunt for children ages 5 and under. There will also be performances from Bubbledad and WonderSpark Puppets, spring-themed arts and crafts with Red Hook Art Project, “Meet the Chickens” with Earth Matter NY, family photos with a spring bunny, and more! The egg hunt is first come, first served as supplies last, and will take place continuously throughout the day. No pre-registration is required, and the event is rain or shine. Note: heavy visitor traffic to Governors Island is expected for the Egg Hunt; it is strongly recommended that you reserve ferry tickets in advance!

Adventure Playground The Yard’s Opening Weekend | Governors Island

The Yard is NYC’s only adventure playground, located on Governors Island, and its opening weekend for the 2024 season is coming! The Yard is a kids-only space in which we supply young people with loose parts materials for building, exploring, imagining and destroying. Some tools provided are nails, hammers and saws, paint, tires, wood, fabrics and more. There are play:groundNYC trained playworkers inside The Yard when it is open to children. We have 2 areas at The Yard! Our family play area was available for kids under 5; our main play area is recommended for ages 5 to 19, and staffed by trained playworkers; we do not allow adults into the main area of The Yard, with the exception of the playworkers and the caregivers/parents of kids with special needs. Come early before the playground reaches capacity for the day!
Young Naturalists Session | Fort Greene Park

Young Naturalists is a youth-led program for kids ages 5-13 to share and grow their knowledge about the world around them using Fort Greene Park as their open lab. Held biweekly from 12-1 p.m., kids can expect to participate in hands-on activities and experiments and learn from their fellow Young Naturalists.
