Bklyn Library news – Carroll Gardens and Red Hook library renovations

The Red Hook Interim Library will open on Tuesday, July 9 at 362 Van Brunt Street. The new location will serve as Red Hook’s neighborhood library while the permanent Red Hook Library undergoes a full interior and exterior renovation. The Interim Library will be open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Materials will be available for all ages (including holds pickups) and patrons will have computer access, free Wi-Fi, library card signup, and a variety of programming. The renovations of the permanent library are expected to be finished in 2025 featuring

  • 14% more space
  • Flood mitigation and protection
  • Floor-to-ceiling windows
  • Teens lounge
  • Children’s room for storytimes and programs
  • Community room
  • Two reservable meeting rooms
  • Outdoor public seating, reading and activity areas
  • An entrance for after-hours garden events

The Carroll Gardens Library has served the neighborhood for more than 100 years with its 14,000-plus square-foot interior that retains its original, barrel-vaulted ceiling and other historical features. It closed in July 2023 for much needed renovations and is undergoing a comprehensive upgrade of the HVAC system, creation of a teen space at the mezzanine level, new lighting and safety systems. Construction is projected to be completed in 2025. Use the Brooklyn Heights Library or Central Library at Grand Army Plaza in the meantime.

Plus, Summer at the Library is under way (including hundreds of kid-friendly activities) and Browse the Branches for additional programming for families!
