Free family-friendly activities and events this week

Our weekly overview of free things to do and events each week in our neighborhoods in Brooklyn is out! Highlights this week: The Greek street fair in Brooklyn Heights, Pride for Kids with the magic of Coney Island in Downtown Brooklyn, Live at the Archway concert series in DUMBO is back and the last week of free programming at DUMBO’s library before the summer break.

Greek Street Festival | Brooklyn Heights | June 6 to June 12

The Greek Orthodox Cathedral is hosting its annual Greek street fair from Monday, June 6 to Sunday, June 12 on car-free Schermerhorn Street. There will be traditional food, dancing, live music, kids activities and much more daily starting at 11 am.

LIVE AT THE ARCHWAY | Dumbo | Thursdays 

A great band on stage + Dumbo artist in the pop up gallery + drinks at the bar, every Thursday from 6 to 8pm. Salsa! Reggae! Modern dance! Rock n Roll! It’s eclectic, it’s free, it’s all ages, it’s always rain or shine in the Archway under the Manhattan Bridge. Find out more here.

Pride for Kids | City Point | Saturday, June 11

Pride Celebration in Downtown Brooklyn…Come One and All! The magic of Coney Island comes to City Point for a Pride-inspired afternoon of entertainment, activities, and community love. City Point and Lola Star are bringing an inclusive celebration to City Point during Pride Month with a cast of Circus Performers, afternoon of activities and Rainbow Parade. Brooklyn families will be encouraged to come in costume and join in the Rainbow Parade, which will circle through Albee Square and Flatbush Avenues led by the visiting performers. Brooklyn Pride Festival | Park Slope | Saturday, June 11

Family Fun Zone with story times, music, face painting and more at Old Stone House, entertainment stage at 4th Street and more at the 5th Ave Brooklyn Pride Festival between Union and 9th Street on Saturday from 11 am to 5 pm.

Youth Pride BK | Gowanus | Sunday, June 12

Brooklyn Bride is hosting the first Youth Pride for ages 13 to 20. Event is for LGBTQIA+ and ally youth to have a space exclusive for them. The event runs on Sunday from 12.30 to 5 pm and will feature double dutch, selfie photo booth, carnival games and DJ. Free RSVP here.

Cumbe Dance Series | Fort Greene Park | Sunday, June 12

Join the Cumbe Center for African and Diaspora Dance and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy every Sunday from 11am to 12pm in June & July (except July 3rd) for rotating Afro Diasporic Dance groups who will teach a family-friendly workshop followed by a performance.

Kayaking | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Wednesday, Thursday Saturday & Sunday

With the Conservancy’s ever-popular kayaking program held in partnership with Brooklyn Bridge Park Boathouse, visitors can enjoy gliding across the East River on Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well as Saturdays starting in June through the end of September. New family kayaking on Sundays will also be offered. Advance registration is required for all, starting first weekend of June, make reservation today. Make a reservation here.

Library programming | Adams Street Library in DUMBO | Mondays to Thursdays

  • Mondays from 3.30 to 4.30 pm: Kids activities including games, book adventures and arts and crafts for ages 6 to 12. No RSVP required.
  • Tuesdays from 1.15 to 1.45 pm and 2.15 to 2.45 pm: Babies and books for 0 to 18 months. Online registration required, opens one week before the event.
  • Tuesdays from 3.30 to 4.30 pm: Teen time with arts & crafts and board games for ages 10 to 17 years. No RSVP required.
  • Wednesdays from 10.30 to 11 am and 11.30 am to 12 pm: Toddler time for ages 18 months to 3 years. Online registration required, opens one week before the event.
  • Thursdays from 3.30 to 4.30 pm: Teen Tech Time with video gaming. No RSVP required.
