Bee The Solution Lecture | Education Center Brooklyn Bridge Park | Friday 8/25

Join Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy and The Bee Conservancy for a deep dive into the world’s 20,000 bee species, including the threats that impact them, the habitats that support them, and impactful steps you can take to help them thrive. Get to know some of the species found buzzing around NYC’s parks, and arm yourself with tools to engage and inspire others in bee conservation. Friday, August 25 from 5.30 – 6.30 pm. RSVP here.

Saturday 8/25, 7am-1pm – Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space – our streets. Eastern Parkway between Grand Army Plaza and Buffalo Avenue will be closed 7am-1pm on August 25th for walking, biking, and play. Citi Bike will offer a limited number of complimentary day passes to non-members. Use the code CITISUMMER on the Citi Bike app to receive unlimited complimentary unlocks on Citi Bike for 24 hours.

Cheer on contenders at the South Slope Soap Box Derby

Saturday 8/26, 12-3pm – For 15 years, KoKo NYC has offered Soap Box Workshops for kids ages 8-14 to create soap box cars from found objects and recycled materials. This year, close to 100 kids will race their fun, funky, eco-friendly gravity racers in the South Slope Derby while hundreds more friends, family and community members cheer them on. In addition to the race, visitors will enjoy food vendors and a raffle.

Fishing clinics | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Sunday 8/27

Learn how to bait a hook, drop a line, and maybe even reel up a fish! Guided by our education team, learn the basics of rod and reel fishing while catching-and-releasing some of Brooklyn Bridge Park’s finest. Sunday, August 27 from 4 to 7 pm at Pier 5. All equipment provided.

Enjoy our epic Lego table, plus building blocks, arts & crafts, Corn hole, Connect Four, arts & crafts, balloon twisting by Leaf Medical & Dental and more on car-free Washington Street on Sundays from 11 am to 1 pm (weather permitting). Book of HOV Jay-Z’s life | Central Library Grand Army Plaza | Daily

The Book of HOV is a 40,000-square-foot exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library Central about Jay-Z’s professional life with the front of the building wrapped with his lyrics, a Jazz Grant-crafted mural in the building’s atrium and six “zones” dedicated to the music icon’s career and legacy. It presents thousands of archived objects, including original recording masters, never-before-seen photos, iconic stage wear, prestigious awards and recognitions, as well as videos and artifacts from every facet on JAY-Z’s life. The exhibition follows library hours of operation MON–THURS 9AM–8PM, FRI–SAT 9AM–6PM and SUN 1PM–5PM. Find out more here.

Free family-friendly kayaking is offered throughout the summer on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons through September in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Find out more here.

Waterfront Walks | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Sundays

Free waterfront walks through Brooklyn Bridge Park to learn about the history of the Brooklyn waterfront and the park’s design.  All tours meet at Pier 1 entrance, weather permitting every Sunday at 10.30 am through October.
