Free kid-friendly events this week in Brooklyn (11/27-12/3)

A week packed with free events is coming up in Brooklyn including tree lighting ceremonies, Santa meet-ups, Menorah making, cookie decorating and more holiday hangs for families.

Atlantic Avenue Tree Lighting | Boerum Hill | 11/28

The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be officiated by New York City Council Member Lincoln Restler promptly at 6pm. Following the holiday greetings from elected officials, the charming Girl Scouts Brownie Troop 2518, second-grade girls from P.S. 261 Philip Livingston will count down to the lighting of the holiday tree. Attendees will then enjoy a live performance of classic holiday tunes. Tuesday, November 28 at 6pm at St. Cyril of Turov Belarusian Church, located at 401 Atlantic Avenue.

Seaport Holiday Tree lighting | Manhattan | 11/28

The Seaport Holiday Tree will be lit on Tuesday, November 28. There’ll be live music, surprises, and the countdown to the tree lighting that marks the official start of the holidays. The fun begins at 5pm, with the Tree Lighting Ceremony from 6 to 7 pm and live performances.

DUMBO Holiday Hang at DrSusan Park | DUMBO | 11/29

On Wednesday, November 29 from 5 to 6.30 pm the community will come together at DrSusan Park for a free holiday pizza party with kids activities including snowflake ornament making, block building and games. There will also be free giveaways for families including books by the Brooklyn Book Bodega. The event is supported by the DUMBO BID and Brooklyn Bridge Parents. Free RSVP here.

Light up Brooklyn Commons | Downtown Brooklyn | 11/29

Celebrate the start of the holiday season on Wednesday, November 29 from 5 to 8pm, while enjoying a variety of festive outdoor activities at the Light Up Brooklyn Commons event, presented by Brookfield Properties. Attendees can explore an exhibition of exquisitely carved ice sculptures by Okamoto Studio, observe live ice carving, sample holiday sweet treats, and look on as Santa himself lights up the treasured Brooklyn Commons Christmas tree. This event is free and open to the public, and will take place in Brooklyn Commons Park, located outside of 100 Myrtle Ave in Downtown Brooklyn. More information here.

City Point Holiday Hub | Downtown Brooklyn | 12/2

Diverse Santa meet & greet, Gingerbread house paper craft, Legos, block building & coloring on Saturday 12/2 from 11 am to 3 pm at the City Point Holiday Hub. Free RSVP here. Please note all activities and programming will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Children’s Party with Santa | Boerum Hill | 12/2

The 3rd Annual Children’s Party with Santa will take place on Saturday, December 2 from 12 to 3 pm. The free event will be held at the Hoyt Street Garden, located at the corner of Hoyt Street and Atlantic Avenue. Parents and guardians are invited to bring their kids for arts, crafts and Santa. They will decorate and color ornaments shaped like snowmen, holiday trees, and more to be displayed on the fences of the vibrant Brooklyn garden. Santa and Olaf will spread holiday cheer by greeting and taking pictures with families.

City Point Holiday Hub | Downtown Brooklyn | 12/3

Menorah making, cookie decorating (12 to 2 pm), selfies with Santa (1 to 3 pm), Legos, block building from 11 am to 3 pm at the City Point Holiday Hub. Free RSVP here. Please note all activities and programming will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Wallabout Wonderland | Brooklyn Navy Yard | 12/2 & 12/3

Wallabout Wonderland pop-up market at the Navy Yard will host more than 200 vendors with a wide array of locally made products, from home goods to clothing and accessories, art, and wellness products. The holiday market will feature a Brooklyn Bridge Parents Family Corner with free kids activities such as magic show, cookie decorating, holiday card making, Lego building and a balloon house. Jewelry customizations, live music, and peppermint scrub hand massages will also be available for market goers to enjoy. Winter will take place on December 2 and 3 from 12 to 5 pm in Building 293 at Assembly Road and Gee Avenue. Visitors must use the Cymer Street Gate to enter. RSVP here.

Fort Greene Park Holiday Tree Lighting | 12/3

Mark your calendars and join us for the 9th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in partnership with Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership. Meet us at Myrtle Ave and St Edwards Street entrance on Sunday, December 3 from 4:00pm–5:00pm for a magical evening as we illuminate the park. Enjoy free hot chocolate and write letters to Santa while listening to festive songs!
