Free kid-friendly events this week in Brooklyn (12/11-12/17)

Chanukkah celebrations for families, free holiday portraits with Santa and cookie decorating, Christmas tree lighting event, caroling, holiday markets with kids activities and much more happening this week in our neighborhoods.

Chanukah at Jane’s Carousel | DUMBO | 12/11

Families are invited to join the Chanukah party at Jane’s Carousel in Brooklyn Bridge Park hosted by the Chabad of DUMBO and DUMBO Gan preschool. Ice Menorah Lighting at 5.30 pm. Free rides, Hanukkah crafts, face painting and more. Suggested donation per family $40 in cash please. Free RSVP here.

Hanukkah Celebration | Atlantic Terminal Mall | 12/11

Gather around the menorah for a candle lighting ceremony, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness. Plus themed arts & crafts for kids and much more. The event will take place on December 11th on the ground floor of Atlantic Terminal near Rumi from 5-6:30 PM, with the Menorah lighting taking place on Atlantic Terminal’s plaza from 6:30-7 PM. Chanukah on 5th Ave | J. J. Byrne Park | 12/11

Monday from 4.45 to 5.30 pm with doughnut decorating, giant games and Menorah lighting.

Chanukah at Carroll Park | Carroll Gardens | 12/12

Join the community on Tuesday, December 12 at 5.30 pm for an evening of light and joy at the Menorah lighting celebration with live music, donuts & latkes and a special program for Israel. Find out more here.

Menorah Lighting | DUMBO | 12/13

Join the Chabad of  DUMBO at the Menorah lighting event in the DUMBO Archway with hot cocoa, chocolate Gelt and entertainment on Wednesday, December 13 from 5 to 6 pm. No need to RSVP, just show up.

Montague Street Tree Lighting | Brooklyn Heights | 12/13

The Brooklyn Heights Garden Club’s annual tree lighting will take place on Wednesday, December 13th at 5:30pm. Join us on the Promenade @ Montague Street for a tree lighting ceremony, including a visit from Santa and singing by the Grace Chorales.

City Point Holiday Hub | Downtown Brooklyn | 12/16

Holiday portraits with Santa, holiday crafts and block building from 11 am to 3 pm at the City Point Holiday Hub. Free RSVP here. Please note all activities and programming will be on a first come, first serve basis.

Winter Solstice Celebration | Governors Island | 12/16

A day full of free cel­e­bra­tions cul­mi­nat­ing in the Sol­stice Species Sashay, a par­tic­i­pa­to­ry lantern parade. Head over to Colonels Row for food, fire pits, and games, along with DJ sets, a col­lab­o­ra­tive art activ­i­ty, the open­ing of the House to Sky win­ter art exhi­bi­tion, a Gov­er­nors Island Nature Scav­enger Hunt, a work­shop and per­for­mance from Cora Dance, walk­ing tours with the Friends of Gov­er­nors Island, and the open­ing of the com­mu­ni­ty-dri­ven, col­lab­o­ra­tive art instal­la­tion. Saturday 12/16 from 12 to 5 pm. Rain date: Sun­day, Decem­ber 17.

Spot Santa | Atlantic Avenue | 12/16

On Saturday, December 16, spot Santa and the brass quartet, Triad Brass as they walk down Atlantic Avenue. Holiday Caroling | Park Slope | 12/16

A beloved Brooklyn Conservatory tradition — holiday caroling! Please join BKCM as they spread cheer throughout the neighborhood, culminating in a reception in their garden. All ages, voices, faiths welcome. This year they will be updating their lyric books to include new popular tunes and gospel traditional songs written for four-part harmony. City Point Holiday Hub | Downtown Brooklyn | 12/17

Caroling at Time Out Market | DUMBO | 12/17
