Watch the World Cup Semi-finals and Finals across Brooklyn and celebrate National Ice Cream Day in Prospect Park and Prospect Heights this week. Families can also learn how to fish in Marine Park, make fire in Prospect Park, juggle in Red Hook, and garden in Fort Greene Park. Don’t miss Brooklyn Bridge Parents’ Summer Saturdays for Families at Atlantic Terminal Mall. The theme for this month is Soccer, Sun & Fun!

Movies Under the Stars: Dirty Dancing | Cadman Plaza Park

Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Come watch Dirty Dancing about an innocent teen vacationing with her upper-middle-class parents at an upscale resort in the 1960s Catskills gets a jolt of culture shock when she crushes on the hotel’s slick, handsome dance instructor.

Nature Storytime | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Thursday, July 16th | 3:00pm-3:30pm

Join for Nature Storytime at the Environmental Education Center! Held at 3:00 PM on the third Thursday of every month (during Open Hours). Librarians from Brooklyn Public Library Adams Street location lead for an exciting and engaging storytime session, along with singing and rhymes. Each month they select a book to pair with the Education Center’s monthly nature theme. Stick around after to check out all the animals and activities in the room during Open Hours! Storytime is typically about a half hour long.

The Art of Drag: Drag Makeup Demo | Borough Park

Thursday, July 16th | 3:00pm-4:00pm

Learn makeup tips and tricks from a drag artist in this live makeup tutorial and demonstration. Attendees will have access to eye and lip makeup, small mirrors, single-use applicators, and makeup removers. They will follow along, and ask questions with drag artist, Bella Noche from Drag Artists for Expression NYC. Bella Noche, the premiere mermaid drag queen of New York, sure leaves a splash wherever she swims.  She aims to bring love and laughter to all audiences with her fantastical spark of colors, creativity, and charisma.  Bella is known as a leader within the LGBTQIA+ community and the drag community for her various work across New York City and Long Island. This will take place at the Ryder Library.

Movies With A View: Bend It Like Beckham | Brooklyn Bridge Park

Thursday, July 16th | 6:00pm-10:00pm

Leading up to the World Cup Final, revisit the popular film Bend It Like Beckham (PG-13, 2002, 112 minutes), about a young woman chasing her passion for soccer despite her family’s wishes. Come early to enjoy a picnic on the lawn and refreshing waterfront breezes, with New York Harbor and Manhattan skyline views like no other as the sun sets. Entry is free and first-come, first serve starting at 6:00 PM. Movies begin at sunset.

The Magic of Moving Pictures | Sunset Park

Come to The Magic of Moving Pictures, a free Animation Workshop series led by teaching artist Maya Perry at the Sunset Park Public Library! This hands-on series introduces young artists to the history and techniques of animation through playful exploration and storytelling. Over the course of several weeks, students will discover how still images come to life through persistence of vision, from early optical toys like thaumatropes and flipbooks to modern stop-motion techniques using paper, clay, everyday objects, and even their own bodies. Each session builds foundational animation skills while nurturing curiosity, collaboration, and creative confidence. From crafting a flipbook, storyboarding an idea, to animating with clay or fabric, students will engage deeply with art and technology—bringing their imagination to motion one frame at a time.

World Cup Final Watch Party at Central Library | Prospect Heights

Join in on the fun on the Central Library’s Plaza for a special public viewing of the FIFA World Cup Final. This culminating event brings together New Yorkers from across the boroughs and beyond to celebrate the world’s most watched sporting event in a shared, communal experience. Hosted in the heart of Brooklyn, this program highlights the energy, diversity, and spirit of our city—welcoming families, neighbors, and football fans from all backgrounds to come together. As the final match unfolds, Central Library becomes a gathering space for community pride, global culture, and collective excitement. In addition to the live match broadcast, attendees can sign up for a Brooklyn Public Library card, explore a curated collection of World Cup-themed books and materials, and participate in raffles for free giveaways while supplies last.

Ample Hills Creamery is celebrating National Ice Cream Day with an ice cream block party at all four NYC shops, including both Brooklyn locations (623 Vanderbilt Ave and 816 Washington Ave). Each location will have music, balloons, face painting and, of course, and their delicious made in Brooklyn ice cream.
