Young Naturalists is a youth-led program for kids ages 5-13 to share and grow their knowledge about the world around them using Fort Greene Park as their open lab. With sessions ranging from bird identification and recycling minigames, to sharing all sorts of knowledge with one another, kids can expect to participate in hands-on activities and experiments and learn from their fellow Young Naturalists.

Midsummer Spark: An Afternoon of Activations | Governors Island

Spend a sun-drenched afternoon igniting your spirit and exploring new horizons! Kick things off at 1 PM with DuYe Moves, a Zumba class on the lawn. At 2 PM, join a fun and empowering Bellydance class. Then we’ll shift gears at 3 PM for creative exploration in Danie Herard’s “Soul Canvas Vortex”, an intuitive art therapy session designed to unlock positivity and mindfulness (all supplies included!). Finally, unwind at 4:30 PM with an immersive reading of “Georgia Stars” by Lauren Marissa Smith, diving into the thrilling tale of modern-day Robin Hood, Bodhi Bella, and her crew face deadly choices.

Old Timer’s Giglio Sunday: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast and Giglio Carnival | Williamsburg

The Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and the Giglio Carnival is a beloved Italian tradition in Williamsburg that dates back to 1887. This family-friendly street festival features food vendors, rides, and games, but it’s best known for the Giglio—a 65-foot-tall, 4-ton wooden tower adorned with flowers and statues. In a dramatic display, 120 men lift the towering structure while a live band plays from the top. Join the festivities on the carnival’s closing day!

Join Prospect Park Alliance for a historical and musical exploration of the little-know enslaved revolt in New Utrecht in 1706. Enslaved Africans throughout the Americas constantly revolted to free themselves and improve their conditions. Come learn about the revolt and listen to the coded drum beats that may have been used to coordinate it.
