How to support Brooklyn’s coat and toy drives this holiday season

Help bring warmth and joy to our neighbors this holiday season by supporting local efforts to collect coats and toys. Bring your donation to a special holiday event, find a drop-off site or donate online to support one of these local organizations in Brooklyn!

Coat Drives

Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church Coat Drive | Saturday, November 18 | 11am-4pm

The Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church is hosting a coat drive at the Hall Street Shelter in Fort Greene for asylum-seekers and immigrants. Bring gently used coats for men, women, and children. Click here for all the details.

Plymouth Church Warm Clothing Drive | Sunday, November 19 | 12-3pm

Plymouth Church is partnering with Spread Love Brooklyn and Team TLC NYC to collect warm clothing for local shelters. Bring new or gently used items for men, women, and children. If you can’t make the drive, you can drop off donations at Plymouth Church 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday, through December 1. New York Cares Coat Drive | Through December 15

Support the New York Cares 35th Annual Coat Drive by donating new or gently used coats. View their Drop-Off Map to see all collection sites, drop-off hours, and special instructions for donations. Locations in our neighborhoods include:

Toy Drives

Brooklyn Community Services Toy Drive | Through December 5

Help Brooklyn Community Services collect toys for children in neighborhoods impacted by systemic poverty. Support their annual Toy Drive by donating funds, purchasing toys, or sponsoring a program. First Presbyterian Church Brooklyn Toy Drive | Through December 10

First Presbyterian Church Brooklyn is hosting their annual Toy Drive for children of the Eastern Farm Workers Association on Long Island. Donate new toys for children 0-14 or donate money to purchase new toys. More information can be found here.

Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation Toy Drive | Through December 8

The AALDC’s Annual Holiday Toy Drive benefits families and children living in homeless shelters during the holidays. For a list of participating merchants who will have a Holiday Toy Drive Box in their business, click here. Drop off a toy in person, donate funds, or purchase a toy directly from the AALDC’s wish list. Click here to learn more about the organizations this drive benefits.

Little Essentials Toy and Book Drive | Through December 15

Little Essentials, based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, is hosting a Toy and Book Drive to deliver 1,000 gifts to children in need. Start a drive for new toys and books at your school or office, get a gift from the wish list, or volunteer! More information here.

Toys for Tots | Through December 15

Toys for Tots is a national program, but it distributes new, unwrapped toys to children in the same community where the donation was made. Search by zip code here to see all local drop-off sites. Locations in our neighborhoods include:

The Brooklyn Hospital Center Toy Drive | Through December 20

Give a gift to a pediatric patient at The Brooklyn Hospital Center this season! The hospital’s goal is to provide a holiday gift to every child that is hospitalized, comes into the pediatric emergency room, or any of the outpatient clinics in the last two weeks of December. Gifts will also keep the hospital’s playroom and toy closet stocked until the next holiday season. Donors may drop off new toys at the hospital or purchase from a wish list. Special Holiday Events

Dumbo Tree Lighting | Thursday, December 7 | 4-7pm

Spread holiday cheer at Dumbo’s annual Tree Lighting by donating toys, coats, and food to local organizations.

  • Toy Drive: Bring an unwrapped toy for children ages 0-14 and it will be donated to the 84th Precinct’s Operation Sleigh Ride.
  • Coat Drive: Bring an old coat in good condition (all sizes welcome!) and it will be added to the 84th Precinct x New York Cares Coat Drive.
  • Food Drive: Bring packaged non-perishables for the Vinegar Hill Pantry Food Drive.

Share the Toy: Toy Giveaway at the Brooklyn Museum | Sunday, December 17, 2023 | 12–3 pm

The Brooklyn Museum is hosting their annual Toy Giveaway! New, unwrapped toys for children ages 0–14 will be accepted November 14 through December 14. During the free museum event on December 17, all are invited to pick up gifts for their little ones. After the giveaway, remaining toys will be donated to local family shelters.
