On Friday, July 4th, the annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show will launch from the Brooklyn Bridge and four surrounding barges in the East River near the Seaport District and Brooklyn Bridge Park, painting the New York City skyline in different colors through fireworks displays and pyrotechnics. The fireworks will be a 25-minute-long display starting at around 9:25 pm. The only area for public viewing in Brooklyn will be Brooklyn Bridge Park and free lottery tickets will be available on July 1st at 8.30 am on a first come, first serve basis.
Fireworks details
- The fireworks will feature crackling crown jellyfish, atomic rings, yellow & green sunbursts, strobing lemon cascades, comet fans & more
- The pyrotechnic firepower will reach heights over 1,000 feet above the East River
- 80,000 shells in 30 different colors
Lottery tickets
- You can enter the lottery for up to four tickets for Brooklyn Bridge Park
- The first 2,500 people to text “FIREWORKS” to 917-909-2288 on Monday 06.30)will be given four free tickets each before the general release to the public
- All remaining tickets will be available online beginning at 8:30am Tuesday 07.01 on a first-come, first serve basis
Street closures and logistics
- The Brooklyn Heights Promenade will be closed at 2 pm the day off, no public viewing on the Brooklyn Heights Promenade
- NYC Ferry service will stop running to Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 6 and Pier 1) at 3 PM
- NYPD will “freeze” the local area in DUMBO and close Brooklyn Bridge Park beginning at 2 PM on July 4
- Governors Island will close at 3 pm
- You will need a free public viewing ticket, proof of residency or reservation for an event/business to access most of DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights after 2 pm
- Residents of DUMBO should carry ID, proof of address (piece of mail or lease agreement) with them the day off and will need to show it after 2 pm
- Guests of residents of DUMBO/Brooklyn Heights will have to meet their guests guests at certain check-in locations to walk them into the frozen zone after 2 pm
- Randolph Beer Rooftop, Time Out Market and other local businesses are hosting ticketed 4th of July events, mainly for 21+ or 12 years and up
- Brooklyn Heights street closures: From Hicks to Columbia Heights spanning from Atlantic Avenue to Old Fulton Street. Cadman Plaza West and Prospect Street
- DUMBO street closures: Street closures from 2 pm onward, with pedestrian access severely limited. Patrons will need to either show proof of living in the neighborhood, free public viewing tickets or a reservation for a business
Brooklyn Bridge Park
The Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will be launched from barges in the East River beside Brooklyn Bridge Park. For safety and security, there will be significant impacts to Brooklyn Bridge Park operations and the surrounding neighborhoods.
- 6 am: Limited areas open (the greenway, dog runs, restrooms and playgrounds will be open until 3:30 PM)
- All day: All piers will be closed
- 3.30 pm: Park closes to all visitors
- 6.30 pm: Park re-opens to ticket holders only (free tickets via city-wide lottery see below)
- Do not bring lawn chairs, blankets, tents, umbrellas, large bags, large backpacks etc
- Brooklyn Bridge Park will be the only official public viewing area in Brooklyn (The Brooklyn Heights Promenade will be closed to the public)
- Free lottery tickets for public viewing in Brooklyn Bridge Park will be available as of July 1st and the City will distribute 100,000 lottery tickets
- Entry points with bag check will be in various locations including Atlantic Avenue Pier 6 entrance and locations in DUMBO
Public viewing for ticket holders
Free tickets will be issued via lottery for prime areas including Brooklyn Bridge Park by NYC Mayor’s Office of Citywide Events. The City will distribute 100,000 free lottery tickets for Brooklyn Bridge Park. The show is free to attend and Macy’s does not sell tickets to any VIP viewing locations. Lottery tickets here.
