Kid-friendly events in April: Celebrating Easter and Earth Day

April is packed with wonderful events for children including Earth Day celebrations, Easter parties and ongoing activities like roller skating at Pier 2 in Brooklyn Bridge Park or visiting the junk yard playground in Governors Island.

The Yard re-opening | Governors Island | Every weekend

The junk yard playground on Governors Island is reopening for the season on Saturday 4/2 and will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 pm for free play for ages 4 and up. Closed shoes required. Donation-based play like no other in NYC. Take the NYC Ferry straight from Brooklyn to the island.

The Big Question | DUMBO & Commodore Barry Park | Saturdays in April

Workshops designed to inspire curiosity through literacy and exploration, for kids ages 0–8. How and why do octopuses change colors? Did cavepeople really live in caves? Children and their caregivers will discover these answers and many more at The Big Question, a free series hosted by Adams Street Library and Walt Whitman Library, in collaboration with Brooklyn Book Bodega. At interactive workshops led by STEM experts, kids will explore some of life’s biggest questions—plus, they’ll get to take home books and curiosity kits about what they learned! Easter Egg Hunt | 4/16 | Brooklyn Heights

The annual free Easter egg hunt will take place at the Pierrepont Playground in Brooklyn Heights on Saturday 4/16 at 10.30 am.

Posing with the Easter Bunny | 4/17 | CityPoint Downtown Brooklyn

Stop by CityPoint to pose with the Easter Bunny and enjoy some block building with Brooklyn Bridge Parents! We will be set up on the ground floor near the Prince Street entrance and kids of all ages are invited to meet the Easter Bunny and play with us. This free event will take place on Easter Sunday from 11 am to 2 pm. RSVP here.

Earth Day Block Party | Hanover Place | 4/23

PS Family NYC is celebrating their new office in Downtown Brooklyn with a Grand Opening & Earth Day Celebration filled with family activities and free workshops on Saturday April 23rd from 10am to 4pm! In celebration of Earth Day, PS Family is hosting free workshops for the community on immigration and Opening or Expanding a Childcare Business, and a live performance of Pistachio, a play about composing. New or gently used books, provided by the Brooklyn Book Bodega, will be given to children attending the event and there will be a Jellycat plushie and Kaplan gift certificate raffle!

Earth Day Celebration | DUMBO | 4/23

The Environmental Education Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park will host a free Earth Day celebration in the Main Street section of the park with activities around nature and science. Free event on Saturday, 4/23 from 11 am to 2 pm, best for children 2 to 8 years old.

BAMKids Spring Festival | Downtown Brooklyn | 4/23

A day of performances, interactive activities, and showcases of local talent, celebrating the spirit of spring and themes related to environmental advocacy and care. Co-curated by the BAMkids Parent Advisory Circle. The free event will take place at the Plaza at 300 Ashland  on April 23 from 10.30 am to 4 pm. Rain date Sunday, April 24. Find out more here.

Car-free Earth Day event | Downtown Brooklyn | 4/23

Join us for an exciting and earth-friendly activation on the plaza at Albee Square. Albee Square West will also be closed to traffic all day, so bring your bike, your roller skates, and your beach chairs and enjoy a car-free street! The free event will take place on Saturday, April 23 from 12 to 3 pm. Find out more here.

Free programming for babies to teens | DUMBO Library | Ongoing

The Adams Street Library has kicked off a robust free program for all ages from babies to teenagers this month! In person activities are happening during the week and on Saturdays. Details here.
