What do you love about living in Brooklyn: While my husband is a native Brooklynite, I grew up in Austin, TX, and really think they’re twin cities in celebrating individuality, diversity and creative expression. I also love how small a town Brooklyn can feel, especially in Carroll Gardens – it’s hard to walk around without waving to neighbors or seeing a friend, something I never expected when I considered raising a family in NYC.
More information about your company: I started my entrepreneurial journey at Owl Tree after spending 20 years in corporate buying roles for brands like Banana Republic, J. Crew, and Coach. After becoming a mother, and then losing my own mom, I set out to create my own mission-based brand that would do its’ part to stem all the unnecessary waste and pollution of the fashion industry. We operate a flagship store in Brooklyn at 376 Court Street, right across from Carroll Park, have a website https://owltreekids.com/, and a lively IG channel @owltreekid, all offering curated secondhand clothing and accessories for kids ages 0-16Y and maternity. We are planning to open our second brick & mortar location in early 2024, after spending our first few years in business perfecting our model (& surviving a pandemic that started less than a year after our opening)! We sell clothing, accessories, and shoes from best-in-class kids brands, such as Crewcuts, Bobo Choses, and Bonpoint, for sizes 0-16 years old. In Maternity, we sell both Maternity and Nursing clothing and gear, from brands like Hatch, Seraphine, Ergo, & Storq. Consignment is by appointment only.
