Meet Elisa Pupko, founder of Treasure Trunk Theatre and mom of 2 in BoCoCa and find out about her life in Brooklyn. Elisa created Treasure Trunk Theatre a decade ago as a way to blend a passion for the performing arts with a deep love of early childhood education. Demand grew quickly, and what began as a weekly class in a yoga studio has now expanded to a business with two studio locations in Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope, a booming outdoor class and camp season all across Brooklyn, birthday parties galore, and more. Elisa maintains her goal of individualized attention for every child with small class sizes, enthusiastic and experienced teaching artists and custom curriculums to engage both kiddos who are running for center stage, and children who might be very hesitant to perform.
Your job title: Founder and CEO Treasure Trunk Theatre
Your work in one sentence: I keep the vision of Treasure Trunk at the forefront for all our teaching artists and staff, making sure every kiddo who comes to Treasure Trunk has a safe and nurturing environment to express themselves fully and creatively. And as an owner of a small business, I wear many different hats on a daily basis – too many “hats” to put in one sentence. 🙂
Your children: I have a 14 month old son and a 5 and a half year old daughter. You’ll see them at a lot of Treasure Trunk classes and events, my daughter is a self-proclaimed super fan!
Where do your kids go to school: My daughter is at PS29 and my little guy will be attending Treasure Trunk’s Twos and Threes Program in the fall. (Cue all the first day of school emotions!)
Which neighborhood do you live in: I’m currently in Columbia Waterfront. In my 16 years in Brooklyn, I’ve lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights and now Columbia Waterfront, so I consider myself a true Brooklynite.
What do you love about living in Brooklyn: Everything! But truly, the community of Brooklyn is like nothing else. I love all the local businesses around us, many of which are also owned by local parents, and the “small town feel” within a big city. We have all the amazing things that NYC has to offer at our fingertips, yet a trip to the playground or out to the grocery store is guaranteed to mean running into a friend or neighbor. From the BuyNothing groups to the local events and celebrations, the community in Brooklyn is truly something special.
More information about your new space and your school: Our second flagship studio in Park Slope at 179 4th Ave, between Sackett & Degraw is now open. Already a staple on Atlantic Avenue with our first flagship location (141 Atlantic Avenue), we at Treasure Trunk are gearing up for a huge summer season of indoor and outdoor camps across Brooklyn for ages 3 to 8! You can find engaging, creative and collaborative theatrical camps with us on all school holidays and the full summer from June to September in Brooklyn Heights, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Fort Greene, and Prospect Heights. Treasure Trunk also offers weekly classes for ages 0 to 9, a Twos and Three’s Program, private pod classes, and birthday parties both at our studio spaces and off-site at a location of your choosing. Let your kiddo’s imagination soar with a visit to Treasure Trunk this season! All are welcome at Treasure Trunk Theatre, and everyone can find their own creative spark!
