New park opening in Downtown Brooklyn in 2024

Abolitionist Place will be Downtown Brooklyn’s much needed new green space opening in 2024. Since ground broke on the project in 2022, progress has proceeded at the 1.15 acre space that was renamed from Willoughby Square to Abolitionist Place in 2021, commemorating the 19th century abolitionist movement. Plans include a new play area, lawn space, dog run, plantings and multiple seating areas. The project is part of the Downtown Brooklyn Redevelopment Plan, a set of space and infrastructure commitments made in 2004 to reinvigorate the neighborhood.
