P.S. 38 at 450 Pacific Street in Boerum Hill has a brand new playground and the new schoolyard will be open seven days per week for neighbors to enjoy. New items include a jungle gym, a pre-k playground, basketball courts, turf field and outdoor classroom space.
The cracked asphalt lot has been transformed into a porous surface that will be able to absorb nearly 1.2 million gallons of stormwater annually, diverting runoff from our sewers and mitigating potential flooding in the neighborhood. The schoolyard is accessible to the general public after school hours and all summer long.
“Green spaces are integral to the health of our communities — especially for our children,” said Council Member Lincoln Restler. “I’m thrilled that we have transformed a dilapidated concrete jungle into a beautiful, green, and resilient new schoolyard at PS38 for the whole Boerum Hill community. Thank you to everyone at PS38 and Trust for Public Land who helped make this happen.
