New restaurants, bars, and cafes opening in our neighborhoods in July ’24

Check out our round up of restaurants, bars, and cafés that opened in July, including an omakase restaurant in Brooklyn Bridge Park, a ramen spot in DUMBO that is the neighborhood’s only vegetarian restaurant, a new pizza shop near the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park, a Greek seafood restaurant on the Williamsburg waterfront, and a new location of the ice cream shop Caffe Panna in Greenpoint. Plus, mark your calendars for more restaurant openings coming later this summer and in the fall, including the long-awaited pizzeria L&B Spumoni in DUMBO, new locations of the fast-growing delivery and takeout chain Wonder in Williamsburg and Bed Stuy, and new locations of Blank Street Coffee and Chopt coming to One Boerum Place.

ippudo V | DUMBO

A new ramen restaurant is now open in DUMBO at 117 Adams Street. They serve five different kinds of ramen, as well as sandwiches, açaí bowls, fruit sandwiches, and smoothies. ippudo V is DUMBO’s only vegetarian restaurant!

 

Lady Bird Bakery | Park Slope

Lady Bird Bakery has been in Park Slope since 1992. Their original location closed, but they moved to a new space at 252 Prospect Park West this month. Lady Bird is known for their Brooklyn Blackout cake, red velvet cake, holiday pies and tarts, and breakfast pastries like muffins and scones.

Unoriginal Noodles | Park Slope

This noodle shop opened in the space formerly occupied by the restaurant Lot 2. They serve plenty of noodle dishes, of course, as well as appetizers including duck wings, mochi fried tofu, fried oysters, plus an array of inventive desserts and cocktails, beers, wine, sake, and soju.

Peppa’s Jerk Chicken | Park Slope 

Peppa’s has a few different locations in NYC, and has now opened up in Park Slope. Beyond their jerk chicken, they also serve escovitch fish, curry goat, and oxtail.

Purslane Cafe | Prospect Park

Purslane Cafe, located in the the Prospect Park Boathouse, opened on July 4. Purslane Cafe is operated by the catering company that produces events at the Boathouse and Prospect Park Picnic House. The cafe is open daily from 8am-3pm with outdoor seating and offers a variety of summer cocktails, wine and beer on select evenings. Food options include sandwiches and pastries, plus coffee drinks.

AM-Thai | Williamsburg

This spot serves American Thai cuisine, including Panang Thai, Bison Beef Ka Praw, Kaa Moo, Gang Som and Poh Tak Sea Food. The team behind the restaurant is first-generation Thai immigrant Boonnum Thongngoen and her American-born son. Thongngoen is also the owner of several other Thai restaurants in the city.

Miss Barb’s | Flatbush

This coffee shop and wine bar opened up in Little Caribbean this month, and is named for the owners’ mother, Barbara. The wine bar will have its grand opening in August.

La Flor | Crown Heights

La Flor is a new slice shop on Classon Avenue. The owner is Giancarlo Villa, who previously worked at Roberta’s and Upside Pizza. Try the classic cheese, pepperoni and mushroom, or spicy Hawaiian. La Flor also makes housemade ranch dressing for drizzling.

Falu House | Greenpoint

Falu House, a Scandinavian deli, serves a variety of delicious pastries (including kanelbullar, or Swedish cinnamon buns, pictured below), breakfast offerings, small plates, and Scandinavian sandwiches.

Moonburger | Williamsburg

Moonburger’s first drive-through locations were located in upstate New York towns including Kingston, New Paltz, and Poughkeepsie. The chain has now come to Brooklyn with a new location on Bedford Avenue.

Dar 525 | Bed Stuy

This Mediterranean restaurant already has locations in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, and opened a new spot in Bed Stuy this month. Their all-day menu of classic Mediterranean fare and home-baked pita is available every day from 11am to 11pm.

Psaraki | Williamsburg

Psaraki is a Greek seafood restaurant in Williamsburg near Domino Park, with beautiful views overlooking the East River and Manhattan. Their menu includes raw bar items, traditional Greek appetizers to share, whole fish, lobster pasta, and more.

Textbook | Bed Stuy 

Textbook, based in Fort Greene, has opened a second location in Bed Stuy. The Bed Stuy location on Hancock Street is a bakery with a basement cocktail “cellar.”

The Saloon at Clover Club | Cobble Hill

Clover Club, Julie Reiner’s bar and a longtime destination for cocktail lovers on Smith Street, is opening up a sister bar directly next door, taking over a space previously occupied by a comic book shop. The Saloon will be a more casual cocktail bar, and will also host private events and cocktail-making classes. In August, the space will also open to the public on weekends: from August 8 to 10, August 15 to 17, and August 22 to 24. More public hours be announced at a later date.

Tabú | Williamsburg

This New Mexican restaurant also serves a wide variety of mezcal and tequila. The menu includes Oaxacan and Yucatan dishes.

Ikigai | Fort Greene

Ikigai is a new upscale Japanese restaurant in Fort Greene serving a 12-course tasting menu. Guests begin the evening in the tea garden before dining at a chef’s counter. The restaurant is a non-profit that donates proceeds to Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, a food rescue organization.

Kiwami | Brooklyn Heights

A new omakase restaurant has opened in Brooklyn Bridge Park, across from Pier 6. Kiwami offers stunning views of the waterfront, as well as fish flown in directly from Japan.

Bell Slip Social | Greenpoint

Bell Slip Social debuted the month in Greenpoint, and serves coffee and pastries by day and cocktails by night.

Caffe Panna | Greenpoint

This ice cream shop, based in Manhattan, was founded by Hallie Meyer, who is the daughter of restauranteur Danny Meyer. Caffe Panna has a huge following and its menu of flavors changes daily.

Sonic | East New York

This newest location of the fast-food chain is the first Brooklyn Sonic with a drive-through.

La Taq | Park Slope

La Taq, established in Park Slope in 1989, had shut its doors back in 2011. However, the California taqueria reopened July 27 at 70 7th Avenue. The menu of Mexican street food includes tacos, burritos, and much more, with the motto “We don’t serve fast food, we serve fresh food as fast as we can.”

Okiboru | Time Out Market | DUMBO

On July 27, the East Village spot Okiboru will open a new location in DUMBO’s Time Out Market, serving bowls of tsukemen and ramen.

Smør | Clinton Hill | Coming Summer 2024

This Scandinavian bakery based in East Village will open a second location on Putnam Avenue, between Downing Street and Grand Avenue. Smør will also serve small plates at night.

Yafa Café | Downtown Brooklyn | Coming Summer 2024

Yafa Cafe is a Yemeni coffee house and community space based in Sunset Park. They will open a new location at 505 State Street in Downtown Brooklyn this summer.

Blank Street Coffee | Downtown Brooklyn | Coming Summer 2024

The Brooklyn-based chain will be opening up a new location at One Boerum Place, on the corner of Boerum Place and Red Hook Lane. Blank Street serves coffee, matcha, and breakfast all day.

Wonder | Coming to Williamsburg August 2024 | Coming to Bed Stuy September 2024

Wonder, a fast-growing delivery and takeout chain describes itself as “a new kind of food hall — iconic chefs and top restaurants.” New locations are popping up in Williamsburg and Bed Stuy late this summer and in the fall. Wonder offers delivery or takeout from multiple restaurants in one order.

Chopt Creative Salad Co. | Downtown Brooklyn | Coming Fall 2024

Another chain coming to One Boerum Place is Chopt Creative Salad Co., a fast-casual salad spot. They are set to open on the ground floor in Fall 2024.

Caffe Buon Gusto | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

Caffe Buon Gusto, the Italian restaurant formerly on Montague Street, has put up their awning on the former Amy’s Bread space on Henry Street near Atlantic Avenue. The restaurant also has a location on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Playa Bowls | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

This smoothie and juice bar will open a new location at 84 Front Street in DUMBO. They serve açaí, pitaya, and coconut bowls and smoothies, plus juices and more.

Kin Jo | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024

A new omakase spot is coming to DUMBO, at 11 Adams Street. More details to come!

L&B Spumoni | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024

The DUMBO location of this pizzeria has been in the works for years. However, it seems that the restaurant’s grand opening at 46 Old Fulton Street is finally coming this fall.

Prestige Market | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

A new market is coming to 60 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights. According to signage, Prestige Market will sell burgers & sandwiches, panini & wraps, chopped salads, juices & smoothies, halal food, and breakfast fare.
