New restaurants, bars, bakeries, and cafes opening in our neighborhoods in August ’24

Check out our overview of restaurants, bars, and cafés that opened in August, including new pastry shops in DUMBO and Fort Greene, a Chinese-inspired ice cream pop-up and coconut-milk-based ice cream shop in real coconuts in DUMBO, a Chopt salad shop in Downtown Brooklyn, and a Thai tasting menu in an immersive space designed to evoke a bus interior in Williamsburg.

Plus, look out for more restaurant openings coming this fall, including a new pizzeria in Brooklyn Heights, a French restaurant in Fort Greene, a Playa Bowls outpost and a new kosher Israeli restaurant in DUMBO, and a new ramen restaurant on Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill.

Tous les Jours | DUMBO

The bakery chain Tous les Jours has opened their newest location on York Street in DUMBO. Customers can pick their own fresh-baked pastries out of glass cases, and the cafe also serves coffee and espresso drinks.

Elephant District | DUMBO

Elephant District is a new Thai restaurant on Old Fulton Street in DUMBO that had their soft opening this month. They will serve Bangkok-style street food.

Tim Tim Ice Cream | DUMBO

TimTim Ice Cream is a new pop-up at 139 Plymouth Street in DUMBO through October 13. They are open Thursday to Sunday 12pm – 8pm (or until they sell out). The operation is run by co-founders who grew up in Guangdong, China. Their ice cream is inspired by their nostalgia for the flavors they grew up with. Featured ice creams include: tomato & shiso sorbet, black sesame with raspberry swirl, spiced ginger, and jasmine tea.

Fuel Fever | DUMBO

Fuel Fever at 52 Jay Street is a new juice bar and grill with healthy options. They have a create-your-own salad bar, wraps, smoothies, low-carb dishes, and protein muffins.

Coco Boys | DUMBO

Another new ice cream shop has arrived in DUMBO, serving coconut-milk-based ice cream in real coconuts. Before they had a permanent home, Coco Boys would travel around Brooklyn selling their ice cream. You can still find them selling on the sidewalk outside 147 Front Street. Try flavors like coconut, Thai bananas, and lemon blueberry.

Chopt Creative Salad Co. | Downtown Brooklyn

This salad chain opened its first Brooklyn location on August 26 on the ground floor of 1 Boerum Place. Chopt has 6 self-service kiosks and both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Popular salads include Summer Corn Caesar, Strawberry Summer Salad, and Kale Caesar salad. Customers can also create their own salads from a wide array of ingredients.

Amano Cafe | Cobble Hill

Amano Cafe, based in the West Village, has opened a new Cobble Hill location. The cafe serves coffee during the day, cocktails at night, and food all day long. Daytime dishes include avocado toast, croissant sandwiches, an assortment of bowls, and brunch dishes. The dinner menu includes small plates and entrees like branzino filet, potato gnocchi, and a burger.

Glin Thai Bistro | Fort Greene

This new spot on Myrtle serves Thai food from both the North and South of Thailand. They also serve Thai-inspired craft cocktails.

Thea | Fort Greene

Thea is a new bakery on the same street as sister restaurant Theodora. They open at 7am and close when they run out of pastries and sandwiches. They serve coffee and their baked goods include: Harissa Caramelized Onion Babka, Cinnamon Coffee Conchas, Blueberry Pistachio Pound Cake, Amba & Olive Sourdough, Chicken Milanesa sandwich, and Seeded Challah.

Teriyaki Bowl | Fort Greene

Teriyaki Bowl recently opened at 339 Myrtle Avenue. The Japanese grill also serves sushi and poke.

Casanara | Clinton Hill

This new cocktail bar opened in Clinton Hill on August 17. They also serve wine, beer, and non-alcoholic drinks.

Atelier Ariana | Carroll Gardens

This Parisian-style cafe has opened on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens. Atelier Ariana serves a variety of croissants and other patisseries, plus tea and coffee. They are open Wednesday through Sunday from 8am-4pm.

Giovanni’s Brooklyn Eats | Park Slope

This Italian restaurant in Park was closed for a year following a fire last June. This month, Giovanni’s reopened in a new location on Eighth Avenue, across the street from the original site. The family-run eatery makes classic Italian dishes from family recipes.

Pomo | Prospect Lefferts Gardens

Pomo is a new cocktail bar that houses PizzaX, which was previously a a Mexican pizza pop-up inside the HLopez Market in Astoria. Mexican pizzas include an Al Pastor Pizza, Elote Pizza, and Tinga de pollo pizza. There are also tacos, quesadillas, and other Mexican dishes.

Wizard Hat @ Anything Bar | Prospect Lefferts Gardens

Wizard Hat pizza was once only available for take-out from their “speakeasy” location, an abandoned storefront. This month, the pizza spot moved to a permanent home at the PLG bar called Anything.

Desert 5 Spot | Williamsburg

Desert 5 Spot is a honky tonk bar with country music, dancing, a mechanical bull, and Dolly Parton memorabilia decorating the walls. There are live music and DJ performances, plus two-stepping classes, cowboy karaoke, and more themed events.

Bang Bang Bangkok | Williamsburg

This Thai restaurant with a tasting menu comes from the team behind the restaurants Mao Mao and Jai Sang Ma. Bang Bang Bangkok is designed to look like the interior of a bus that “transports” diners between different markets in Bangkok. The illusion is brought to life with huge screens covering the bus windows. This creative dining experience is $155 per person for a 10-course tasting menu.

Plus de Vin | Williamsburg

This natural wine bar opened in Williamsburg on August 12. Beyond their beverage menu, they also serve snacks including chilled shrimp, pork rillettes, peekytoe crab toast, and more. There is seating indoors and also in their backyard garden.

La Cabra | Bushwick

La Cabra is a coffee shop based in Denmark, and this Bushwick location is the chain’s third in New York City. The new space has a cafe with a view of their roasting operations. They will also be hosting tastings, talks, and more special events.

Caffe Buon Gusto | Brooklyn Heights

Caffe Buon Gusto, the Italian restaurant formerly on Montague Street, has now reopened where Amy’s Bread was located on Henry Street, near Atlantic Avenue.

Third Falcon | Fort Greene | Coming September 6 

This new restaurant is opening on Myrtle Street in Fort Greene on September 6. The chef Cali Faulkner previously cooked at Crown Shy, Oxalis, and Eleven Madison Park in NYC, and Verjus in Paris. They will serve French food inspired by the cuisine of Brittany and Normandy, with ingredients coming from local NY farms.

Wonder | Opened in Williamsburg August 2024 | Coming to Bed Stuy September 2024

Wonder, a fast-growing delivery and takeout chain describes itself as “a new kind of food hall — iconic chefs and top restaurants.” New locations are popping up in Williamsburg and Bed Stuy. Wonder offers delivery or takeout from multiple restaurants in one order.

Smør | Clinton Hill | Coming September 2024

This Scandinavian bakery based in East Village will open a second location on Putnam Avenue, between Downing Street and Grand Avenue. Smør will also serve small plates at night.

Kin Jo | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024

A new omakase spot is coming to DUMBO, at 11 Adams Street. More details to come!

L&B Spumoni | DUMBO | Coming Fall 2024

The DUMBO location of this pizzeria has been in the works for years. However, it seems that the restaurant’s grand opening at 46 Old Fulton Street is finally coming this fall.

Malka | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

Choc Mania | Boerum Hill | Opening date TBA

Choc Mania is coming soon to 529 Atlantic Avenue, and will focus on all things chocolate, from waffles to milkshakes to ice cream, to coffee.

Jules | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

A new pizzeria is coming to 50 Henry Street, where the wine bar Fifty Henry was previously located. The menu was created by a chef at Henry’s End for 15 years. In addition to pizza, the restaurant will serve salads, shareable plates, and wine.

Ramen Thukpa | Boerum Hill | Opening date TBA

The ramen spot Ramen Thukpa is coming soon to 535 Atlantic Avenue.

Yafa Café | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA

Yafa Cafe is a Yemeni coffee house and community space based in Sunset Park. Their new location in Downtown Brooklyn will be a takeout window inside a residential tower at 505 State Street.

Blank Street Coffee | Downtown Brooklyn | Opening date TBA

The Brooklyn-based chain will be opening up a new location at 1 Boerum Place, on the corner of Boerum Place and Red Hook Lane. Blank Street serves coffee, matcha, and breakfast all day.

Playa Bowls | DUMBO | Opening date TBA

This smoothie and juice bar will open a new location at 84 Front Street in DUMBO. They serve açaí, pitaya, and coconut bowls and smoothies, plus juices and more.

Prestige Market | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

A new market is coming to 60 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights. According to signage, Prestige Market will sell burgers & sandwiches, panini & wraps, chopped salads, juices & smoothies, halal food, and breakfast fare.

Just Salad | Brooklyn Heights | Opening date TBA

A new location of the salad chain Just Salad is coming soon to 58 Court Street.
