NYC ending mask mandates for most settings

As of Monday, March 7th students and teachers in Department of Education schools in Kindergarten and up will no longer be required to wear masks, the Mayor announced on Friday, March 4th. This includes school buses, outdoor and indoor settings. Students and teachers Early Learning, 3K for All and UPK programs will continue to wear masks. “We want to see the faces of our children. We want to see their smiles. We want to see how happy they are. We want to comfort them,” Adams said at a press conference in Times Square. “Masks have prevented us from doing so for almost two years.” There will also be no more social distancing requirements in schools generally.

Masks will also come off in most indoor settings including gyms and event venues. Masks will still be required in transportation hubs, subways, buses, on planes, in nursing homes and health care facilities. Additionally, vaccination requirements for indoor dining and most other settings are being lifted.
