Open Houses at public elementary schools in District 13 and 15

If your child enters Kindergarten, UPK or 3K in September 2024, you can attend in-person (and virtual) open houses at local zoned and un-zoned public schools over the next weeks and months. Children who were born in 2019 can apply for Kindergarten from December 5th, 2023 until January 19, 2024. Families also have the option to include Gifted & Talented and Dual Language programs on their application. Learn more on the kindergarten admissions website.

3-K & Pre-K: Children born in 2020 (pre-K) and 2021 (3-K) will be eligible to apply. Both applications will open January 10th and close March 1st, 2024. Learn more on the pre-K admissions website and 3-K admissions website.

Zoned schools

PS 8 / Brooklyn Heights (no 3K or UPK):  Takes in and out-of-zone students. PS 8 will offer three open houses this year, sign up for one open house: Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 6:00 PMWednesday, December 13, 2023 at 9:00 AMWednesday, January 10, 2024 at 9:00 AM  Find out more here.

PS 11 / Clinton Hill (UPK): Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. RSVP for open houses October 19, 2023, November 11, 2023 and December 21, 2023 at 9 am here.

PS 20 / Fort Greene (3K and UPK): Zoned school, also runs a French Dual Language Program. In-person school tours will take place February 8, 2024 at 9 am, RSVP here.

PS 9 / Prospect Heights (UPK): Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students into their general education and Spanish dual language programs. Open houses will take place in November, 2023. To sign up here.

PS 29 / Cobble Hill (UPK): Zoned school with new admissions policy to take on 30% of students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. School tours: December 8th, 2023 and December 13th, 2023 at 9:00 am. January tours to be announced. RSVP here.

PS 32 / Carroll Gardens (3K and UPK): Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. PS 58 / Carroll Gardens (UPK): Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. The school runs a French dual language program in addition to general education classrooms. Upcoming open houses on December 7th 2023, 8:45 AM and on January 10th, 2024, 8:45 AM. RSVP here.

PS 261 / Boerum Hill (UPK): Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. School Tour on December 8, 2023 at 9 am. PS 38 / Downtown Brooklyn: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. Stay tuned for dates. Find out more here.

PS 46 / Fort Greene (3K and UPK): Zoned school offering 3K to 5th Grade, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. Also runs Spanish dual language program. Tours will begin November 8th at 8:30 am and occur every other Wednesday 11/8, 11/22, 12/06, 12/20, 01/03, 01/17, 01/31, 2/07, 03/06 and 03/20. No need to RSVP, just show up.  Find out more here.

Unzoned “Choice” Schools

PS 133 / Gowanus (UPK): Un-zoned school that runs French and Spanish dual language programs as well as general education classes, draws by lottery from District 13 and 15. School tours will take place November 16, November 30, December 14, 21, January 11, January 25, February 8 and February 29 at 9 am. Find out more here.

Brooklyn New School / Carroll Gardens (UPK): Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13, 14, 15 and 16. In Person: No sign up necessary. More information here. Open house will take place November 10, 2023 at 9:00 am, December 7, 2023 at 9:00 am, January 11, 2024 at 9:00 am and Friday, February 2, 2024 at 9:00 am. PS 372 The Children’s School / Carroll Gardens (UPK): Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 15 and sets aside seats for students with special needs (IEP). Stay tuned for Open House tour dates. Virtual tour here.

Arts & Letters 305 United / Bed Stuy (UPK): Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13. School tours will take place October 26 and November 15, 2023 at 9 am. Find out more here.
