Open houses at public elementary schools & Kindergarten applications open 12/8

If your child enters Pre-K or Kindergarten in September 2022, you can attend virtual and in-person open houses at local zoned and un-zoned public schools over the next weeks and months. Families with children born in 2017 can apply to Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year from Wednesday, December 8 to Tuesday, January 18, 2022. All families who apply by the deadline will receive a kindergarten offer in April. Pre-K applications are not open yet. Our overview of zoned and un-zoned public schools in District 13 and 15 will be updated regularly once virtual school tour dates become available.

Zoned schools

PS 8 / Brooklyn Heights:  Only takes in-zone students, has had a wait-list for Kindergarten in the past. Virtual open house will take place on December 16, 2021 and January 13, 2022 at 10 am. RSVP here. Zoom link: Click here to join Zoom, Meeting ID: 839 7141 3762, Passcode: 367294

PS 307 / Vinegar Hill: Magnet school for STEM studies takes out of zone students. Watch their virtual school tour presentation here. A virtual open house will take place on December 20, 2021, an in-person house will take place on January 13, 2022. RSVP here.

PS 11 / Clinton Hill: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. RSVP for open houses 1/27/22, 2/17/22, 3/31/22 and 4/28/22 here.

PS 20 / Fort Greene: Zoned school, also runs a French Dual Language Program. In-person school tours will take place 12/8/21, 12/14/21 and 12/15/22 at 8.40 am. RSVP here.

PS 9 / Prospect Heights: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students into their general education and Spanish dual language programs. Watch their virtual school tour here. Open house on December 16, 2021. Please sign up here.

Zoned schools with upcoming admissions and school zone changes

The school zone changes for PS 29, PS 32, PS 261, PS 15, PS 58 and PS 32 will go into effect next school year, school year 22/23. Each school will set aside 30% of seats to students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the school zone.

PS 29 / Cobble Hill: Zoned school with new admissions policy to take on 30% of students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. PS 29’s virtual information session will take place January 11, 2022. RSVP here.

PS 32 / Carroll Gardens: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. Next virtual open houses will take place on December 13, 2021, January 3, 2022 and January 10, 2022. RSVP here.

PS 58 / Carroll Gardens: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. The school runs a French dual language program in addition to general education classrooms. Upcoming open houses December 15, 2021, January 13, 2022 and February 8, 2022. PS 261 / Boerum Hill: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past but less and less in past years. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. PS 38 / Downtown Brooklyn: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. The school is setting aside 30% of seats for students who live in poverty, NYCHA housing and who are English Language Learners from outside the zone. PS 15 / Red Hook: Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. Also runs Spanish dual language program. Zoned school, has been taking out-of-zone students in the past. Unzoned “Choice” Schools

PS 133 / Gowanus: Un-zoned school that runs French and Spanish dual language programs as well as general education classes, draws by lottery from District 13 and 15. No dates announced for virtual open houses, check back here.

Brooklyn New School / Carroll Gardens: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13, 14, 15 and 16. Virtual open houses will take place on 12/20/21, 1/19/22, 2/15/22 and 3/16/22. More information and RSVP here.

PS 372 The Children’s School / Carroll Gardens: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 15 and sets aside seats for students with special needs (IEP). Open houses on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 at 9 am , Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022. at 4 pm and Monday, Feb. 14, 2022 at 9 am. RSVP here.

Arts & Letters 305 United / Bed Stuy: Un-zoned school, draws by lottery from District 13. Two in-person tours scheduled– Tuesday December 14th, 2021 and Thursday January 6th, 2022, and a virtual tour on Thursday January 13th, 2022. All tours will be 6 to 7 pm. For in-person tours, proof of vaccination and masks are required. Please check back on their website for a sign-up sheet here.
