Open Streets in our neighborhoods this year

With spring in full swing, Open Streets programs across our neighborhoods are back in action, offering free, family-friendly fun on car-free streets. Our guide has all the details—dates, times, and locations. Don’t forget to save the date for exciting Open Street events this spring and summer, including DUMBO Family Games, Brooklyn Bridge Parents’ Spring Fling on Montague Street, DUMBO Drop, and the Brooklyn Heights Association Dog Show.

DUMBO

Washington Street Open Streets | Starting April 1

Daily, 11am-9pm | Washington Street between Water & Front Streets

Eat outside, enjoy the iconic view, people-watch, and enjoy DUMBO Family Games (kicking off Sunday, May 11 and running in May/June & September/October). Open Streets on Washington Street will return for the 2025 season on April 1, running 7 days a week through the holidays.

  • DUMBO Family Games on Washington Street | Starting May 11 | Sundays, 11am-1pm (weather permitting) | May/June & September/October
    On Sundays in May, June, September and October, join for free kids activities and a community hang! Curated by the DUMBO BID x Brooklyn Bridge Parents and supported by Leaf Medical & Leaf Dental in DUMBO. This year’s DUMBO Family Games will kick off on May 11, Mother’s Day!
  • DUMBO Drop | Friday, May 30 | Drops at 5pm & 7pm | DUMBO Archway Party 4-7pm
    DUMBO Drop is an annual tradition where thousands of toy elephants parachute down from the skies of Dumbo onto Washington Street. The ticketed event supports DUMBO’s PS 307 and The Dock Street School.

 

Brooklyn Heights 

Montague Open Streets | Starting May 11

Sundays, 10am-7pm | May 11–June 29 | Montague Street from Clinton Street to Hicks Street

Montague Open Streets returns for another exciting season on Sunday, May 11 (opening day on Sunday, May 4 was unfortunately rained out). Montague Street will be car-free for seven Sundays (except Sunday, May 26), running through Sunday, June 29. The street will shut down to traffic from 10am-7pm on Sundays with tons of free family-friendly activities.

Save the date for:

  • Brooklyn Bridge Parents’ Spring Fling | Sunday, May 18 | 12-4pm | The streets will be alive with 25 free kids activities and puppet show (1 pm). We will have games, arts & crafts, soccer, face painting, building activities and obstacle course, much more. RSVP here!
  • Brooklyn Heights Association Dog Show | Sunday, June 1 | The beloved dog show will highlight the neighborhood’s most adorable and talented pups. Plus, dog obstacle courses, dog pools, pet adoptions, a pet psychic, and an array of pet friendly vendors.

Boerum Hill

Hoyt Open Streets | Starting April 4

Fridays, 6pm-11pm & Weekends, 11am-11pm | April–October | Hoyt Street from Atlantic Avenue to State Street | Starting April 26

The Atlantic Avenue BID produces Hoyt Open Streets, with free family-friendly outdoor fun, including fitness and movement classes, live music, read aloud, and Splish Splash Saturdays in the summer. Hoyt Open Streets kicks first weekend in April, and the last program of 2025 will be their annual dog Howl-o-ween event on October 25. Prospect Heights

Vanderbilt Open Streets | Starting May 3

Saturdays, 12-10pm | May 3–September 27 | Vanderbilt Avenue from Atlantic Avenue to Park Place 

During Open Streets season, Vanderbilt Avenue is fully closed to traffic on Saturdays to create over four acres of temporary public open space for outdoor dining, programming and events, passive and active recreation, and picnicking. It is one of the largest such volunteer-led Open Streets in New York City, and currently the only one in Brooklyn. Past Open Streets programming has included tons of live music and performances, Sprinkler Saturday, salsa dancing, and more! They will also have free bike riding lessons from Bike NY once a month. Park Slope

5th Avenue Park Slope Open Streets | Starting May 10

Saturdays, 2-10pm May–October (excluding August) | 5th Avenue from Union Street to 4th Street

Park Slope Open Streets is back for another season! This year, they’re expanding the program to include 3 more blocks (5th Avenue from Union to 4th Street) and will continue to book family-friendly programming and music every Saturday from May to October (excluding August). Williamsburg

Berry Street Open Streets | Starting April 26

Daily, 8am-8pm | Berry Street from Broadway to North 12th Street

Berry Street Open Streets is gearing up for their 5th year of programming. Williamsburg’s Open Streets creates space for pedestrians and cyclists, including a Bike Boulevard that creates a two-way cycling route. This year’s program will kick off with Car-Free Earth Day on April 26, and the season will conclude with the annual Halloween party in October and Turkey Trop scavenger hunt in November. The North Brooklyn Open Streets Community Coalition also advocates for more open spaces surrounding McCarren Park, Banker’s Anchor and Bedford Slip.
