The Open Streets on Willoughby Street and Pearl Street intersect to create an open space called Willoughby Plaza. Just off Fulton Mall, Willoughby Plaza is surrounded by popular restaurants and cozily lit by tivoli lights in the evenings. Steps from Downtown Brooklyn’s NYU campus, bustling Brooklyn Commons, and the Court Street commercial corridor, the plaza sees a lot of weekday foot traffic. Our popular Summer Salsa series takes place here as well as lunchtime concerts and other events.

Prospect Heights

Vanderbilt Open Streets | Returning Friday, May 3

Fridays 5-10pm, Saturdays 12-10pm & Sundays 12-5pm | Vanderbilt Avenue from Atlantic Avenue to Park Place

The Vanderbilt Avenue Open Street dates for 2024 will be May 3 through Sep 29, 2024. During its operating season, Vanderbilt Avenue is fully closed to traffic on weekends to create over four acres of temporary public open space for outdoor dining, programming and events, passive and active recreation, and picnicking. It is one of the largest such volunteer-led Open Streets in New York City, and currently the only one in Brooklyn. Past Open Streets programming has included Family Friday, Sprinkler Saturday, and more! Stay updated on programming here.

Fort Greene

Willoughby Avenue Open Streets | New hours beginning Wednesday, April 17

Every day, 8am to 8pm (no longer 24 hours/7 days a week) | Willoughby Street from Washington Avenue to Washington Park

The seven-block Willoughby Avenue Open Street has been running 24/7 since January 2022, and has been shared by pedestrians, cyclists, joggers at all hours. However, the DOT is cutting hours of operation starting Wednesday, April 17. Instead of 24 hours/7 days a week, the Open Street’s operating hours will be 8 am to 8 pm. A petition is being circulated asking for a permanent 24/7 Willoughby Avenue Open Street. Stay up to date on news and programming here.

Park Slope

5th Avenue Park Slope Open Streets | Not yet confirmed for 2024 season

If funding is secured, Park Slope Open Streets would run every Saturday from first weekend of May through the first weekend of November | 5th Avenue from President Street to Second Street

The Park Slope Open Streets program has been one of Brooklyn’s most popular in past years. Unfortunately, the previous program survived on pandemic and city funding, which has come to an end. The 5th Avenue Merchants Association is fundraising to bring the program back for the 2024 season; learn more here. Stay updated on their efforts by checking their Instagram.

Williamsburg

Berry Street Open Streets | OPEN

Daily, 8am-8pm | Berry Street from Broadway to North 12th Street

Williamsburg’s Berry Street Open Street creates open space for pedestrians and cyclists, including a Bike Boulevard that creates a two-way cycling route.
