Our overview of outdoor activities in Brooklyn and beyond includes a visit to Lightscape at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a trip to Governor’s Islands winter village and ice skating in Carroll Gardens.

Winter Village | Governors Island | Ongoing

The Gov­er­nors Island Win­ter Vil­lage in Colonels Row fea­tures fun activ­i­ties and win­ter vibes for vis­i­tors of all ages!  The Vil­lage includes a 5,000-square-foot ice skat­ing rink open Fri­days-Sun­days and all NYC Depart­ment of Edu­ca­tion hol­i­days, along with dai­ly attrac­tions and activ­i­ties includ­ing more than a dozen lawn games, fire pits, sled and bike rentals from Blaz­ing Sad­dles, twin­kling lights and food vendors (bring your own food as some days there are only 1 to 2 food trucks). Ice skating admis­sion: $11 (all ages) Free Admis­sion Fri­days. Skate Rentals: $8 (all ages). RSVP for ice skating here. NYC Ferry’s shuttle from Wall Street/Pier 11 to Yankee Pier on Governors Island will continue on weekends until the launch of daily service along the South Brooklyn route. Visitors can take NYC Ferry from points along any route that stops at Pier 11/Wall Street and receive a free transfer to Governors Island Ferries. Lightscape installation | Brooklyn Botanic Garden | Ongoing

Explore Brooklyn Botanic Garden like never before at the after-dark, illuminated spectacular Lightscape animated with over one million lights. Lightscape takes visitors on an immersive trail where they encounter monumental light installations, colorful light displays highlighting the Garden’s trees, landscapes, and architecture, site-specific music and sounds. The family-friendly installations will be available to visit on select dates until January 9th, children 3 years and up pay $18, adults pay $34. Get tickets here.

Ice Skating @ Court Street Tavern in Carroll Gardens

Their rink is a winter skating rink, however, the surface is not ice! They use Glice USA ‘ice’, a new technology to create polymer panels that simulate the glide and feel of ice. The surface is impact absorbent and environmentally friendly. Ice Rink reservations are available via Resy for a 45 minute session. Admission to the rink is $35 per child and include skate rental and use of skate aid seals and frames. RSVP here.

LeFrak Prospect Park Ice Skating

Experience ice skating on two open-air rinks, designed for skaters of all ages and skill levels. Reserve your desired 90-minute skate session for access to one of our two available ice rinks online now and guarantee your ice time. Skate rentals are available at an additional cost or feel free to bring your own skates. Ice skating costs $7.50 – $11 per person and skate rental is $8 per person. They also offer skating lessons for ages 5 years and up this winter. Find out more here.

ArtRink @ Brooklyn Children’s Museum 

ArtRink is a 3,200 square foot outdoor ice skating rink and art exhibition showcasing the work of sixteen local artists. Together with a number of winter-themed activations, ArtRink is a one-of-a-kind art & play experience for families and kids this holiday season. ArtRink is open to all BCM visitors during regular Museum hours from 2pm–5pm. Skate & Play Sessions that include 60-minutes of skate time are available for $23 for the general public (includes general admission to the Museum and skate rental) and $8 for BCM Members. Industry City Ice Skating

Ice skating at Industry City is now open. The rink is uncovered and outside, so dress appropriately for an enjoyable and comfortable skate.
