In our annual middle school info session with 10 middle schools for parents with current 5th Graders, Brooklyn Bridge Parents presented an overview of the different middle school options in Brooklyn and beyond. Public school applications
Families with children born in 2015 no matter what school they attend for elementary school are able to apply for public middle schools here. It is not a first come first service, just fill out the application within the time frame. You can find out about district-wide, borough-wide and city-wide programs here and will be able to add as many programs as you want on your application. Middle school applicants with siblings currently in sixth or seventh grade have priority to attend their sibling’s school. You can register for upcoming open houses in each school’s listing here. - Monday, November 3, 2025: Deadline to register to test for Mark Twain I.S. 239
- Friday, December 12, 2025: Middle School Application Closes
- Wednesday, April 15, 2026: Middle School Offer Release
District 13 and District 15 only feature unscreened middle schools with a set-aside for low income students at each school. If there are more applicants than seats, seats are assigned via lottery.
Mark Twain school for Gifted & Talented is a citywide program with admissions screens for the Creative Writing, Computer/Math, Science and Athletics Talents. Find out more here.
Charter school applications
Applications for charter schools are open and families need to apply directly on the website of each Charter School network. Application deadline is April 1, 2026 and it is a separate process to public Department of Education schools. Download our Charter School Guide here.
