Finally! The School Construction Authority has released its new capital plan which includes a huge increase in needed and funded school seats in DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Fort Greene, Downtown Brooklyn, Carroll Gardens etc.
In District 13 in the DUMBO, Navy Yard and Fort Greene neighborhoods alone they are identifying 2,777 new seats needed and have funded 1,953 new ones at this point (it includes 333 seats at DUMBO’s new middle school at Dock Street). Three projects – new elementary schools – are planned for the overall District 13 with design starts as early as 2016.
For District 15 in the Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Gowanus neighborhoods, they are anticipating a need for 2,192 new seats and are funding 1,280 additional seats. Six projects – new schools – are planned for the overall District 15 with design starts as early as 2016. Again, no information where these schools could be built.
