South Brooklyn ferry service launching in 2017

Mayor De Blasio announced this week that Hornblower Cruises, a San Francisco company, will get the contract to build a new ferry service on the East River that will launch in summer 2017. This new service will integrate the East River Ferry.

Tickets for the new ferry system will cost as much as a subway or bus ride which is now $2.75 – coming down from $4 on weekdays and $6 on weekends.

The South Brooklyn route will connect Bay Ridge, Brooklyn Army Terminal, Red Hook, Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1 and Pier 6, and Wall Street, with an optional link to Governors Island. A trip from Pier 6 to Wall Street is estimated to be 14 minutes.
