Spring break activities with kids in Brooklyn and beyond

New bumper cars in Prospect Park, the cherry trees are starting to bloom at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, indoor and outdoor roller skating in Brooklyn, story times and family-friendly fun in Brooklyn during spring break.

Bumper Cars | Prospect Park

Starting this Tuesday, April 11 Lakeside bumper cars will be open Monday to Sunday from 12 to 6 pm. $10 for 10 minutes.

Cherry Blossom | Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Many different kinds of cherries are starting to bloom in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the ‘Kanzan’ trees on Cherry Esplanade are forming buds. The cherry blossoms will be available to view until approximately early May, you can track the cherry blossoms here. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is open from Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 am until sunset during the week and 8 am until sunset on weekends. Children under 12 are free, otherwise $12 – $18 per person.

Luna Park | Coney Island

Luna Park in Coney Island will be open daily during Spring break (April 7th – 16th) and every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until Memorial Day. Roller Skating Rink | Brooklyn Bridge Park

The roller skating rink at Pier 2 has reopened for the 2023 season. The rink is open 6 days a week, closed on Tuesdays. They offer free skating sessions, theme night skating, birthday parties, field trips and more. Find out more here.

The Yard | Governors Island

In 2023, The Yard is open from 12 to 4 pm every weekend from April to November. On busy days, timed slots may be available on a first-come first-served basis at the gate. We recommend you fill out the ONLINE WAIVER prior to your visit. Closed-toe shoes are required. Your donations are critical to providing adventure play for free to thousands of children across the city.

Rollerskating @ Rollerwave | Downtown Brooklyn

The Roller Wave roller skating rink at Atlantic Terminal Mall offers skating on a 9,000 square-foot rink with family programming, skating lessons and more. The Roller Wave is open Wednesday and Thursday from 12 pm – 10 pm, Friday through Sunday from 11 am – 2 am, open to all ages until 8 pm and adults-only following. Skaters can find The Roller Wave at 625 Atlantic Ave, in between Party City and Old Navy. Tickets start at $19.50 for adults plus a $10 skate rental fee, and $14.50 for children plus a $5 skate rental fee.

Storytime at Barnes and Noble in Cobble Hill | Saturdays

Weekly story time on Saturdays at 11 am for kids ages 2 to 8 is back at the new Barnes & Noble location on Atlantic Avenue in Cobble Hill.

Storytime | McNally Jackson CityPoint | Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays

McNally Jackson bookstore is hosting free story times upstairs in their children’s section Wednesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm and Sundays at 1 pm for ages 4 to 8. No RSVP required, just show up.

Transit Museum | Downtown Brooklyn

For children 2 years and older, the highlights of the museum are the buses which they can sit inside – and act as the bus driver- as well as the many vintage subway cars to check out. The museum is housed in an historic subway station on Schermerhorn Street, right between Court Street and Boerum Place. No elevator and no cell phone reception. Admission: Adults: $10, children 2 – 17 years: $5. Thursday – Sunday, 10am to 4pm.

NYC Aquarium | Coney Island

Visit the NYC Aquarium in Coney Island and check out their new exhibitions. The Aquarium is open seven days a week from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Children 3 years and up $26, adults $30. All details here.
