The outdoor event season for families is kicking off in May with the magical kite festival in Brooklyn Bridge Park, our annual Bklyn Block Party in Downtown Brooklyn, the Willowtown Spring Street Fair in Brooklyn Heights and more free festivals in Brooklyn. We will be adding more events as they come in, so check back.
BAMkids SpringFest 2023 | Fort Greene | Saturday 5/6
Families are invited to a joyous day of performances, interactive activities, and showcases of local talent! Join BAMKids SpringFest outdoors this year and enjoy an eclectic program of music, dance, comedy, and circus arts by artists from Japan, West Africa, the Philippines, and Hawaii. Saturday, May 6, 10am—4pm for Ages 2—11.
Kite Festival | Brooklyn Bridge Park | Saturday 5/13
This family-friendly festival takes over the sports field of Pier 5 and unites S.T.E.A.M concepts, the Caribbean’s rich history of kite-flying, and outdoor adventures. Launch your kites, enjoy live entertainment, and learn all about the science of flight through kite-flying activities and experiments. Families are encouraged to celebrate their own kite-flying traditions from their own heritage and bring their own kites. Kites will also be for sale, alongside workshops to make kites in the Caribbean tradition. Food and beverages provided by local food trucks. May 13 from 11 am to 3 pm at Pier 5.
Bklyn Kids Block Party | Albee Square & City Point | 5/20
Back by popular demand, Brooklyn Bridge Parents will bring the party to Downtown Brooklyn at both City Point (indoors) and Albee Square (outdoors) with free, fun activities for families with kids ages 1 to 12! Epic ball pit, Lego building, arts & crafts, live music, soccer games, family Zumba class and more at City Point at 445 Albee Square West and Albee Square outside. Bring your kiddos and friends. Saturday, May 20 from 11 am to 3 pm (if it rains, we will move the whole party inside to CityPoint). Free RSVP here.
Willowtown Spring Street Fair | Brooklyn Heights | 5/20
The annual Willowtown spring fair will take place on Saturday, May 20th from 12 to 5 pm at Willow Place in Brooklyn Heights featuring face painters, bouncy house, bake sale, magic show, games and more.
DanceAfrica Bazaar | Fort Greene | 5/27-5/29
DanceAfrica’s beloved bazaar returns, featuring more than 150 vendors from around the world, offering African, Caribbean, and African-American food, crafts, and fashion. Celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Africa and its diaspora—and see the streets surrounding BAM transformed into a global marketplace.
