DUMBO’s Belgian block reconstruction nearly finished

Redesign of 5th Avenue in Park Slope

Park Slope’s 5th Avenue Business Improvement District, representing 30 blocks  from Dean Street to 18th Street, has released a new vision for 5th Avenue, together with WXY architecture + urban design. The plan proposes wider sidewalks, safer crossings, new plazas, greenery, and bike infrastructure to make the street safer and more biker- and pedestrian-friendly. The redesign would also include and flood-resilient features following last year’s flooding that damaged over 30 businesses. See the full vision plan here. The first phase of projects will begin in 2026-27, with the full redesign projected for 2030.

Safety redesign of Court Street

The DOT has kicked off work on Court Street, from Schermerhorn Street down to Hamilton Avenue, aiming to reduce congestion and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists through Downtown Brooklyn, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, and the edge of Red Hook. The street sees 1,000 cyclists every day, and prior to this project had no protected bike lane. One travel lane for vehicles has been removed the existing two-lane design, adding a bike lane, plus pedestrian islands and curb extensions at intersections. Work is still ongoing—read the full plan details here.

Citi Bikes arriving in Bay Ridge

Citi Bike has finally come to Bay Ridge, with NYC DOT installing 49 docking stations throughout the South Brooklyn neighborhood this fall. Docks will house both regular bike and grey e-bikes. To see all the locations now open, and those coming soon, click here.

New bus lanes coming to Flatbush Avenue

The DOT will roll out a new dedicated bus lane on Flatbush Avenue this fall, stretching from Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn to Grand Army Plaza. The center-running lanes, complete with new pedestrian boarding areas, aim to speed up commutes for the 132,000 riders who use the corridor daily. The redesign will also improve safety on one of Brooklyn’s deadliest streets—140 people have been killed or seriously injured on Flatbush in the past five years. Construction has begun, with completion slated for spring 2026. Read more about the project here.

Safety improvements to Scott Avenue in Bushwick

A new safety improvement project has begun on Scott Avenue in Bushwick. NYC DOT is installing new pedestrian ramps and a concrete extension at the intersection of Scott Avenue, Troutman Street, and St. Nicholas Avenue. The project will also install painted curb extensions and bike corrals.
