Our guide to swim programs in Brooklyn and lower Manhattan covers everything from swim lessons and competitive teams to lap swim and family swim sessions, with details on ages, levels, costs, and locations. Programs are offered in DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, Boerum Hill, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Gowanus, Crown Heights, Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bed-Stuy, Bushwick, lower Manhattan, and beyond. 

All Sports for All People of Camp Olympia | Park Slope

Program Details: All Sports for All People offers weekend swim classes for all ages and levels, including Baby & Me (6-36 months), pre-swim team, advanced, and adult classes. Family Swim is open to all on Sundays. Group and private lessons are available. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 6 months+

Costs: Group Classes are $245/5 classes ($285/5 classes for adults); Private Classes are $75 and Semi-Private Classes are $125; Family Swim $5/swimmers currently enrolled in classes and $10/swimmers not enrolled (no registration required).

Fall 2026: Their fall session had not been posted as of mid-August 2026 — the website was still showing summer dates.

Aqua Beba | Williamsburg, Bushwick & Midwood

Program Details: AquaBeba offers swim lessons for infants, toddlers, children, teens, and adults. Classes include group, semi-private, and private lessons; pre-team training; prenatal swim; and private teen and adult sessions. They also offer open swim options Caregiver participation is required for younger age groups. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 4 months+ and adults

Costs: $150-$660 depending on enrollment type of registration; visit their website to create and account and browse available classes.

Fall 2026: Class times, session dates and prices are published only inside their online registration portal, so check there for current fall availability.

Asphalt Green | Battery Park

Program Details: Asphalt Green offers youth swim programs starting at 4 months and lessons for adults. Classes progress from water comfort to advanced skills, with options for swim leagues, a competitive team, and private lessons. They also offer lifeguard courses for those age 15+. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 4 months+ and adults

Costs: Group classes are $777/term for non-members ($660/term for members). Private youth swim lessons are $98/30-minute lesson and $196/60-minute lesson for members and $115/30-minute lesson and $230/60-minute lesson for non-members. 

Fall 2026: The fall season runs September 11 through December 20, split into Term 1 (September 11 to October 29) and Term 2 (October 31 to December 20). Registration for fall private lessons opens Monday, August 17. Note that all pools are closed for annual maintenance from August 16 through September 7.

British Swim School | Prospect Heights & Lower Manhattan

Program Details: British Swim School offers swim lessons for ages 3 months through adults. Programs are available for all experience levels.  

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 3 months+ and adults

Costs: There is a one-time registration fee of $59 (+$11 for each additional member), followed by a monthly fee that is depending on the offering you choose.  It is $249/month for 4 weekday lessons, $269/month for 4 weekend lessons, $299/month for 4 adult semi-private lessons, and $399/month for 4 lessons per month for students of all ages with special abilities. Sibling and other discounts available.

Fall 2026: British Swim School enrolls year-round rather than in seasons, so children start whenever a spot opens rather than waiting for a fall session.

Berkeley Carroll School Community Swim | Park Slope

Program Details: The Berkeley Carroll School’s Athletic Center is open to the community during early mornings, evenings, and weekends (September–July). Group classes, private lessons, family swim on select Sundays, pool parties, and lap swim are available. Classes include Baby & Me, Toddler & Me, group swim, competitive swim, synchronized swimming, and lifeguard training. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 6 months+ and adult

Costs: Classes range from $420-$600/session, depending on offering. Private lessons start at $90/30 minutes, and semi-private lessons start at $140/30 minutes. Family Swim is $20 per caregiver and one child, each additional child or adult is $10; lap swimming is $20. Pool parties are also available for $850 for 20 children, $30 for each additional child up to 25 children.

Fall 2026: Children’s classes run Saturdays from September 12 through December 12, at $630 per level. The facility is closed for the month of August and a new registration platform launches the last week of August, so that is when to sign up.

Brooklyn Stingrays | Downtown Brooklyn & Prospect Heights

Program Details: Brooklyn Stingrays is a year-round competitive swim team with USA Swimming-certified coaches. They offer professional coaching and technique instruction for swimmers aiming for city, regional, or national competition. Note: This is a program for established swimmers! Brooklyn Stingrays does not offer a learn-to-swim program. 

Levels: Intermediate – Advanced. Sign up for tryouts here or contact the coach with any questions.

Ages: 6-18

Costs: $650 Annual Fee, $250/month for 10 and under, $275/month for ages 11-13, and $300/month for ages 14+

Fall 2026: The Stingrays are a year-round competitive team rather than a learn-to-swim program, and swimmers join by tryout; families looking for lessons are pointed to the Prospect Park YMCA or Berkeley Carroll. No 2026-27 tryout date had been posted as of mid-August.

Physique Swimming | Park Slope & Lower Manhattan

Program Details: Congregation Beth Elohim partners with Physique Swimming to offer swim lessons and family open swim at CBE’s pool in Park Slope. Classes are taught by Physique’s instructors and available multiple times weekly for all ages. Physique Swimming also has two locations in Lower Manhattan, on the campus of Léman Prep. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 6 months+ and adults

Costs: Group classes are $60/30-minute session and $80/60-minute session. Semi Private lessons are $100-$140. Private lessons are $130-$170. Discounts for CBE members. Family Swim is open to CBE members only.

Fall 2026: Fall registration is open. In Park Slope the term runs by day of the week — Mondays September 14 to December 7, Tuesdays September 15 to December 8, Wednesdays September 16 to December 9, Thursdays September 17 to December 10, Fridays September 18 to December 11, Saturdays September 19 to December 12 and Sundays September 27 to December 13.

Chelsea Piers Field House Brooklyn | Prospect Heights 

Program Details: Chelsea Piers Swim School in Brooklyn offers classes designed to build water safety and swimming skills, from beginner lessons to mastering competitive strokes. Instruction takes place in a 1,300 sq. ft., 4-foot-deep warm water pool ideal for young swimmers. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 3 months+ and adults

Costs: $1,440–$1,650/12 sessions

Fall 2026: Fall classes start Thursday, September 10, and registration is open.

Program Details: Freedom Aquatics offers Learn to Swim classes, private lessons, and a USA Registered Competitive Swim Team program. Sign up for a free tryout here!

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 3+ 

Costs: Registration fee is $50/year; Classes range from $47/lesson to $80/lesson depending on the length and level. They have a full session rate and a pay as you go option, and offer a multi-swimmer discount. Fall 2026: No fall schedule or pricing was posted on their website as of mid-August 2026. New swimmers are asked to book a free in-person evaluation before joining a class.

Goldfish Swim School | Gowanus 

Program Details: Goldfish Swim School offers year-round lessons for children 4 months to 12 years with a maximum 4:1 student-to-teacher ratio. The facility has a warm 90-degree pool and a tropical design. Programs include family swim, small group lessons, and a swim team. 

Levels: All levels

Ages: 4 months – 12 years

Costs: Group Lessons (4 months-12 years) start at $50/lesson; Independent Baby classes with no parent in the water (24-35 months) are $65/lesson; Swim Force swim team (5-12 years) is $65/lesson. 4/5 day jump start clinics are also available for $190. Annual membership is $25/swimmer. Multi-swimmer discounts available.

Fall 2026: Goldfish enrolls year-round and bills monthly, so there is no fall registration window to catch.

Imagine Swimming | Crown Heights & Lower Manhattan

Program Details: Imagine offers 30-minute lessons tailored to each child’s development. Their Classic group classes (ages 3+) maintain a 1:4 teacher-to-student ratio for focused skill-building and social interaction. Additional offerings include lap swim memberships, family swim, lifeguard training, a competitive swim team (Manhattan Makos), an artistic swim team (Imagine Synchro), and even skateboarding and surfing lessons. 

Levels: All levels

Ages: 8 weeks+

Costs: $59/class for 30 minute weekly group classes ($65/class for 30 minute drop in classes); $89/class for semi-private classes and $178/class for private classes. There is also a $59 annual registration fee for participants who swim on a weekly basis. Lap swim memberships are $124/month or $25/session.

Fall 2026: Fall registration is open. Families who live in Brooklyn Community Board 9 or City Council District 35 and meet the income guidelines qualify for an 80% discount at the Crown Heights Armory, which brings 30-minute lessons to $11.80 per class; you apply in person with proof of income and address.

Program Details: The JCH of Bensonhurst offers a variety of swim programs, including Parent & Me Swim starting at 8 months, a popular Swim Academy, a Swim Team & Jr Team, Developmental Swim for youth of all ages, and Private Lessons. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: Parent & Me Swim for 8 months – 3 years; Swim Academy for 4-14 years

Costs: Swim Academy starts at $435 for non members for one lesson per week and $680 for two lessons per week. Parent & Me Swim is $435/semester for nonmembers. See more pricing here.

Fall 2026: No fall schedule was posted as of mid-August 2026 — the aquatics pages were still showing summer 2025 dates and rates. Classes are filled first-come, first-served.

Life Time | DUMBO

Program Details: Life Time swim programs are members-only. Certified instructors teach swim lessons, and Life Time also has weekly Family Swim hours Fridays through Sundays. For advanced swimmers, they also offer a year-round developmental swim teams for ages 5 to 12 years old and competitive USA Swimming affiliated teams for ages 6 to 17 years old!

Ages: 4 months+

Costs: Group lessons are $150/month; semi-private lessons are $300/month; private lessons are $400/month. Packages cover one 30-minute lesson per week, and any additional lessons are 25% off. Fall 2026: Lessons run year-round with rolling enrollment, so there is no session to sign up for. A junior membership attached to an adult membership is required.

Manhattan Makos | Crown Heights & Lower Manhattan

Program Details: The Manhattan Makos are Imagine Swimming’s competitive swim team, coached by top swimmers from the tri-state area. Open to all levels, the team provides a pathway from first races to high-level competition. 

Levels: Intermediate – Advanced

Ages: 6+

Fall 2026: The Makos are a year-round competitive team, and the 2026-27 meet season opens the weekend of October 10. New swimmers start with the inquiry form on their website.

Manhattan Youth Swim School | TriBeca 

Program Details: The Manhattan Youth Swim School at the Downtown Community Center offers small-group swim lessons for all ages and abilities. The 25-yard pool is kept at 86–88°F. Members can access daily Family Swim, Adult Lap Swim, and infant/toddler pool classes; lessons are open to non-members at standard rates. While members receive discounted rates on group swim lesson fees, you do not have to have a membership to enroll in lessons. 

Levels: Beginners – Advanced (Advanced swimmers should check out The Tritons Swim Team, which does not compete against other teams but instead hosts inter-team meets several times per year)

Ages: 6 months+ and adults 

Costs: Small group lessons break down to $49/lesson for Members and $55/lesson for non-Members. Classes for children under 2 are included in Membership ($225 Monthly for Families). Private lessons start at $98/half-hour lesson.

Fall 2026: Fall registration is open, and enrollment is rolling — you can join mid-semester and pay a prorated rate based on the classes left.

QNS Aquatics | Flatbush

Program Details: QNS Aquatics offers lessons in its QAC Swim School program. They offer beginner and more advanced lessons for all ages. They also have a stroke clinic and pre-team as more competitive options. 

Levels: Beginners – Advanced

Ages: 3-15 and adults

Costs: Registration fee is $50; $269/8 weeks

Fall 2026: Fall I runs September 12 through November 1. At Brooklyn College there are no lessons on Monday, October 12, and the Brooklyn site is closed Saturday, October 3 for a swim meet; there are lessons on Saturday, October 31.

SwimCity Aquatics | Lower Manhattan

Program Details: SwimCity was founded by a husband-and-wife duo with more than 2 decades of aquatics experience. They offer swim lessons for all ages and abilities, from babies to teens, including small group, semi-private, private lessons, plus a Serpents Swim Club for advanced swimmers ages 7-16. 

Levels: Beginners – Advanced

Ages: 4 months+

Costs: Small group classes are $660/12 weeks; semi-private lessons are $1,260/12 weeks; private lessons are $1,980/12 weeks, and their Serpents Swim Club is $1,260/12 weeks. 

Fall 2026: Fall registration is open through the sign-up form on their homepage. Session dates and prices are not published online.

Program Details: SwimJim has lessons for babies starting at 6 months through adulthood. Classes include group, semi-private, and private lessons.

Fall 2026: SwimJim enrolls year-round and bills monthly rather than by session. The Greenpoint pool is closed September 7, November 26 and December 24 through 26.

Program Details: Take Me to the Water offers class sizes, warm pools, and an imaginative curriculum. Swim lessons are offered for all ages and abilities, including Baby & Me, Group Lessons, Private Swim Lessons, Semi-Private Lessons, and a Swim Team. 

Levels: Beginner – Advanced

Ages: 6 months+ and adults

Costs: Baby & Me $45/class; Semi-Private $55/class, Small Group Lesson $45/class; Group Lesson $40/class, Private Lesson $95/class; Swim Team $55/class (and a yearly non-refundable fee of $100 for team suit and awards)

Fall 2026: Registration runs year-round through their family portal rather than in seasonal sessions, so fall availability depends on open spots rather than a sign-up date.

Trident Swim Foundation | Prospect Heights

Program Details: ​The Trident Swim Foundation’s Summer Swim program is a free, two-week learn-to-swim program in Prospect Heights, running from early July to early August. The program’s mission to bring accredited swim instructors to teach children water-safety behaviors, breath-control, and how to float and move through the water. Children receive ten 30-minute lessons Monday–Friday, learning water safety, breath control, floating, and basic swimming skills. More experienced swimmers are taught the four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Trident also offers a Swimmer Scholar Program, available during the academic year in Prospect Heights.

Ages: 6-17

Costs: Free!

Fall 2026: Trident’s free community learn-to-swim program runs in the summer only. During the school year its Swimmer Scholar Program is open to students enrolled at its partner campuses rather than to the general public.

Dodge YMCA | Boerum Hill 

Program Details: Dodge YMCA offers swim classes for toddlers, kids, and teenagers. Children learn water safety, basic swimming competency, and progress through levels as they develop skills and learn about the four competitive swimming strokes. Dodge YMCA also offers lap swim and family swim.

Ages: 2.5-17

Program Details: The Bed-Stuy YMCA offers swim classes for infants, children, and teens. Infants and toddlers learn water comfort and readiness with a parent. Children progress through skill levels, learning water safety, basic swimming, and the four competitive strokes. Teens can learn basics, improve skills, or join the youth swim team. Both group and private lessons are available, along with lap swim and family swim hours.

YMCA Prospect Park | Park Slope

Program Details: The Prospect Park YMCA offers swim classes for infants, children, and teens. Infants and toddlers learn water comfort and readiness with a parent. Children progress through levels, learning water safety, basic swimming, and the four competitive strokes. Teens can learn basics, improve skills, or join the youth swim team. The pool also offers lap swim and family swim hours.

YMCA Greenpoint | Greenpoint 

Program Details: The Greenpoint YMCA offers swim classes for infants, children, and teens. Infants and toddlers learn water comfort and readiness with a parent or guardian. Children progress through six swim stages, learning water safety and swimming skills, while teens can improve basics or refine strokes. The Y also offers lap swim, recreational swim, family swim, and semi-private or private lessons.

Ages: 6 months – 17 years and adults

Learn to Swim with NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation | Various locations around NYC

Program Details: The NYC Dept. of Parks & Recreation offer a variety of swim programs, ranging from learn to swim lessons to recreational swimming to adult/senior exercise classes to training for swim team competitions.

Levels: All levels

Ages: 1.5-17 and adults

Costs: Indoor Learn to Swim classes are offered for free in the fall, winter, and spring through a lottery system. Participants must be recreation center members. Learn more about becoming a recreation center member. (Membership is free for kids, teens, and young adults ages 18-24.) 

Fall 2026: Learn to Swim also runs indoors in the fall, winter and spring, not only outdoors in the summer. Classes are free and places are allocated by online lottery, with a waiting list; watch the Learn to Swim page for fall session dates.
