We’ve rounded up this month’s best events for tweens and teens across Brooklyn and Manhattan! Check out a k-pop party, a Bad Bunny talk, NYC Parks x NYC Knicks basketball clinic, gaming events in Brooklyn and Manhattan, tween and young adult book groups, a brand new crochet club, Teen Night at the Brooklyn Museum, and a new candy experience in Manhattan. The Brooklyn Public Library will also be having important talks about addressing online harm and relationships.

Teen Time: K Pop Party and Bracelet Making! at the Brooklyn Heights Library | Brooklyn Heights

Love K-pop? Teens can join the party at the Brooklyn Heights Library. Teens will share their favorite artists and music while making bracelets. All materials and snacks will be included.

Young Adult Book Group at the Greenlight Bookstore | Fort Greene

Led by Greenlight bookseller Micah, the YA Book Group is a space for the curious young reader interested in a curated, intentionally diverse and broad selection of books. While literature is of course at the core of this book group, cultivating our very own community and connections are also at the root of YABG, so if this sounds like a good time to you, come join the fun! For March, the group discusses Sync, the latest novel in verse by #1 New York Times bestselling author Ellen Hopkins. Told in dual perspectives through unsent letters, at turns heartbreaking and always honest, Sync is a searing and unforgettable account of two seventeen-year-old twin sisters, caught in the teeth of the foster care system, fighting their way out and back to each other.

Join scholars Vanessa Díaz and Petra Rivera-Rideau, who co-created of the “Bad Bunny Syllabus”, in conversation with Julyssa Lopez, Deputy Music Editor at Rolling Stone, for an illuminating discussion about Bad Bunny, Puerto Rican history, and the power of art to speak back to empire.

Maker Girls: Presented by Extreme Kids and Crew at the Rugby Library | East Flatbush

Tweens and teens can stop by the Rugby Library for this special program. Maker Girls builds on every girl’s creativity, community, adventure, and leadership. Through projects, play, and games, we’ll build confidence, explore the arts and science, and create a community of friends. Maker Girls is designed for neurodiverse femme-identifying youth, though everyone is welcome to join. Make friends, have fun, and build confidence! This is an accessible event. Please do not wear perfume, cologne, or other scented products while using the space.

NYC Parks x New York Knicks All-Girls Basketball Clinic | East Flatbush

Come out to the brand new Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center  and celebrate girls in basketball by participating in this all-girls basketball clinic brought to you by NYC Parks and MSG Sports New York Knicks. Girls will be able to join in a series of skills and drills led by NYC Parks and New York Knicks Youth development coaches.

Teens DIY: Pie and Prose at the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center | Greenpoint

Teens, join the Greepoint Library’s Young Adult Librarian for this creative writing workshop to celebrate Pi Day (3.14) early and work on your prose. While you’re here, you can either work on an existing piece of prose or poetry, or start anew. They will have writing kits and some prompts, and you can get feedback on your writing and talk to your librarian and peers. As an added bonus: they’ll have pie! Please be aware of your allergies.

Teens can also pick up a writing kit containing a notebook, a zine filled with prompts, and a pen to help them write an entry for the Ned Vizzini Teen Writing Prize! Teen writers from New York City, grades 6-12, are invited to submit their poetry and prose to be judged by a panel of BPL’s expert young adult librarians for creativity, style and voice. Tween Book Group at the Greenlight Bookstore | Fort Greene

Led by Greenlight staff member Megan, their Tween Grade Book Group reads and discusses great contemporary and classic chapter books. Pizza is served. For March, the group will discuss Lee Bacon’s Imaginary, the story of a boy and his imaginary friend-told by the imaginary friend. Poignant, humorous, and breathtaking, Imaginary is an inventive story of friendship, loss, and growing up . . . as only an imaginary friend could tell it.

Teen Night: One Shot at the Brooklyn Museum | Prospect Heights

During this time of change, explore the power of self-expression at the year’s second Teen Night, a teen-led program centered on art and activism. This evening is inspired by Seydou Keïta: A Tactile Lens, an exhibition of photographs that—in one shot—capture people’s emotions and identities as their country, Mali, was rapidly evolving. Join the Brooklyn Museum for art-making, performances, and much more.

Teen Crochet Club at the Highlawn Library | Gravesend

Are you a teen interested in learning how to crochet? Come join the Highlawn Library for their first Crochet Club meeting! The first project will be to make a flower. This club is ideal for beginners, but all skill levels are welcome to join. Materials and supplies (and snacks) will be provided. Right My Wrongs – Teen News & Media Literacy Series at the Central Library | Prospect Heights

Everyone makes mistakes online – what matters is how we respond afterward. This workshop introduces teens to a three-step framework for addressing online harm: recognize, repair, and rebuild. Snacks will be provided. This workshop is designed by Common Sense Media and is part of the Teen News & Media Literacy Pilot Program funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

PaleyGX: Minecraft Build Challenge at The Paley Museum | Manhattan

Get ready to put your build skills to the test at the Paley Museum’s Minecraft Build Challenge! Up to forty contestants will face off in timed design challenges, using their favorite machine: Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, Switch, or PC. Each round will be judged based on creativity, and only the most innovative builders will vie for the grand prize. Two groups of contestants will tackle two build challenges each, and the top three winners from each group will battle it out in the finals. Only the top two contestants will win, so don’t miss this thrilling opportunity to showcase your talents and become the Minecraft Build Challenge champion! RSVPing online will not secure you a spot until you check in with the tournament organizer between 12:30pm and 12:55pm.

PaleyGX: Tips & Tricks for Children Featuring Street Fighter 6 at The Paley Museum | Manhattan

Whether you’re brand new to the fight or a seasoned veteran of the Street Fighter series, this tutorial is for you! Join the Paley Museum for a fun, hands-on session where players can sharpen their skills, learn new tricks, and discover how to enjoy the game even more. They will cover pro tips and strategies for both beginners and experienced fighters. All children must be accompanied by an adult. To secure your spot, please purchase general admission, then add on tickets for this event during the second step of checkout. Teen Time: Real Talk on Relationships & Situationships at the Greenpoint Library and Environmental Education Center | Greenpoint

In this program, teens will explore different relationships, learn how to define them, and how to ask: “What are we?” The first half of the session focuses on understanding various kinds of relationships. The second half shifts to hands-on activities. This program is co-facilitated by the Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP), which works with teens to support healthy relationships of all kinds.

Creative Self-Care: Beginner Press-On Nail Design at the Flatbush Library | Flatbush

Teens can learn how to create a simple, beginner friendly nail design using press-on nails in this hands-on class. Participants will be guided step by step through an easy design while learning basic techniques for clean, polished results. This class encourages creativity and self-care, and is perfect for beginners. All materials will be provided.
