Transportation news: MTA fare increase, open stroller bus program and faster ferry routes

Open Stroller bus program expanding

Currently, strollers must be folded before boarding most NYC buses. The successful Open Stroller pilot program with designated open stroller areas is coming to more than 1,000 buses across NYC. The Open Stroller Pilot Program on Brooklyn buses will include B1, B3, B6, B 36, B64 and B74 by the end of 2023.

Changes to MTA fares on August 20, 2023

  • The base fare for subway and local buses will increase 15 cents, from $2.75 to $2.90.
  • The 7-Day Unlimited Ride pass will increase from $33 to $34, and the 30-Day Unlimited Ride pass will increase from $127 to $132.
  • Discount programs for students and seniors will not change.

South Brooklyn Ferry faster connections

The South Brooklyn Ferry route will be split into two faster connections during the mornings and in the afternoons on weekdays moving forward to provide faster commutes overall.

  • The Pier 6 / Atlantic Avenue route will not stop at Governors Island anymore
  • The Pier 6/ Atlantic Avenue route will go straight to Wall Street
  • The DUMBO route will make its way quicker to Governors Island
