Two new movie studios coming to Red Hook and Bushwick

Two new movie studios for big-budget productions are coming to Red Hook and Bushwick, bolstering Brooklyn’s growing film and TV scene. The $552 million project, Echelon Studios, will create two state-of-the-art production facilities and is expected to create 2,400 jobs. The Red Hook complex will rise at 176 Dikeman Street, while the Bushwick studio will be located at 242 Seigel Street. It’s estimated that the studios will bring $81.6 billion to NYC’s film and TV industry.

The two all-electric studios will total 600,000 square feet of production facilities, with a total of 10 new sound stages. The Bushwick facility will be able to accommodate three large productions at a time, while the Red Hook facility will be designed for one or two projects at a time.

The project will also invest in the local workforce, partnering with Brooklyn organizations that prepare youth for careers in film and television. The Reel Works’ MediaMKRS Career Development program will help train youth for jobs in production and post-production, including a collaboration with NYCHA to engage young adults. In addition, a partnership with Hook Arts Media will create media education programs designed for residents of Red Hook and Bushwick.

No dates have been announced yet for the studios’ construction or completion. Learn more about the project here!
