New location for International Charter school, more space for PS 9 and a possible construction delay for Brooklyn Prospect middle school

The proposed re-siting and co-location of International Charter School of New York Grades 3-5 with P.S. 93 in the PS 93 building in Bed Stuy has been approved for the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year. Grades K to 2 will continue to be located at 55 Willoughby Street in Downtown Brooklyn. The Charter school admits students of District 13 by lottery.

PS 9 in Prospect Heights currently shares a building with Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School. The proposed re-siting and co-location of Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School to a different building in the 2018-2019 school year has been approved which means PS 9 will be taking over the whole building for the elementary school. PS 9 is a zoned elementary school serving students Pre-K to 5th Grade offering general ed classes, a district-wide G&T program and a Spanish dual language program. We are expecting the school to gain around 300 seats due to this change.

Brooklyn Prospect Charter School is planning to open its new middle school campus for District 13 at 1100 Fulton Street in Clinton Hill in September 2018. The temporary co-location with Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School at 300 Willoughby Avenue has been extended for one year. According to Brooklyn Prospect: “The new building construction is on schedule, it’s the inspection scheduling that is unpredictable. If inspections are scheduled in a timely manner, the school is expected to open on time.”
