New after school programs in our Brooklyn neighborhoods this fall

Back-to-school season is upon us, and there are so many new after school programs in our neighborhoods this fall, with engaging activities including coding, gymnastics, art, music, and more!

Code Ninjas | Gowanus 

Code Ninjas has a new 1,700 square foot center in Gowanus where kids can learn to code and craft their own video games.

Program details: When the school day ends, the fun begins at Code Ninjas! The after school program includes 1 hour of Code Ninjas curriculum, 1 hour of homework support, and 1 hour of a STEM activity. Code Ninjas offers convenient daily pickup from the following schools: PS133, PS282, PS32 and The Children’s School. (Don’t see your school in this list? Contact us!). CREA Interactivity | Industry City

CREA Interactivity opened in Industry City in May, and is the a tech-driven indoor playground where players navigate through interactive zones, conquering challenges and fostering creativity through movement.

Program details: The Crea After School Adventure is a continuous 60-minute action-packed experience where players enter into an interactive tech-driven environment. Players run, jump, climb, crawl and dodge through our seven zones that combine technology with traditional play/games. Families can opt to add on a second hour of Game Design in the Design Lab. This fall, students will focus on Sustainable Cities. Kids will learn the fundamentals of design thinking as it applies to gaming, and will be introduced to all the steps involved in the game development process; from research and planning to production and play testing. After school programs are taught by an experienced team of skilled animators, game designers and coders along with highly trained movement specialists, all of whom share a passion for teaching children. School of Rock | Bay Ridge

School of Rock’s new location in Bay Ridge had a soft opening in June, and celebrated their grand opening this month. The music school is open from 3-9pm Monday through Thursday and offers an array of programs for all ages. School of Rock also offers free trial lessons and school tours!

Program details: School of Rock’s music lessons are taught by real, practicing musicians, and students can learn to rock out on guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and vocals, across many genres. The program features a song first approach where students learn to play their instruments through a performance based music education. Their motto is “We don’t teach music to put on shows. We put on shows to teach music.” Students can progress through different music programs, starting with “Little Wing” for preschoolers (ages 4-5), “Rookies” (ages 6-7), weekly private lessons and group rehearsals with “Rock 101” (ages 8-13), and on to the Performance Program for teens, which includes group rehearsals, stage performance, song-based learning, and more.

Ages: 4 and up

Hours: Monday – Thursday, 3-9pm and Saturdays, 10am-4pm

The Painted Pot | Park Slope

The Painted Pot, which was previously located on 7th Avenue, moved to a new location in Park Slope this summer. The studio offers an array of classes and camps for kids and teens, and is currently registering for their Fall 2024 after school program.

Program details: The After School Clay & Art Class will focus on hand-building and sculpture, painting pottery, mosaic techniques and canvas painting, students will craft  bowls, plates, cups, vases as well as amazing sea creatures, animals and more creative fun.  Students are taught the fundamentals of slab, pinching, and coil techniques. The Painted Pot offers school pick up from PS321, PS118, PS39, PS282 & Berkley Carroll. Gotham Gymnastics | Gowanus

Gotham Gymnastics is opening a new location at 316 Douglass Street this summer, adjacent to their original location at 315 Douglass Street. The brand new 11,000-square-foot gym includes state-of-the-art equipment including vaults, bars, beams, full-size spring floors, foam pits, in-ground trampolines, TumbleTraks, ropes, rings, climbing walls, and more. Gotham Gymnastics will now offer after school classes at both of their locations.

Program details: Gotham Gymnastics offers six different types of classes on a year-round basis for athletes of all ages, genders and levels. Our highly skilled coaches provide a fun, focused and safe environment where athletes are encouraged to keep progressing – reaching milestones at their own pace. Private Picassos | Clinton Hill

Private Picassos, based in Park Slope, is opening its second location in Clinton Hill on September 10. This new 2,000 square foot studio with a back yard will feature all of the popular programming offered at the Park Slope studio, but in a much larger space. Save the date for their Grand Opening Party on Sunday, September 8, from 11am-1pm.

Program details: Private Picassos offers weekly after school classes for kids. These are structured classes are led by a Private Picassos’ Art Teacher and have a max of 10 students per class. My Gym City Point | Downtown Brooklyn

My Gym is opening its third Brooklyn location on the mezzanine level of City Point on September 9. The 4,800 square foot gym will offer variety of classes for all ages. My Gym is currently offering a Pre-Opening Special, just $49 for the first month of membership!

Brooklyn Dance Conservatory | Gowanus

Brooklyn Dance Conservatory is moving to a new location at 497 Carroll Street and will open for drop-in, trial, and placement classes in August. The new studio is in an elevator-equipped building with 10-foot windows, tall ceilings, a sprung flooring, and 8 foot mirrors. Mark your calendar for the studio’s Grand Opening event on Saturday, August 24 with a preview of the space and FREE trial classes from 10:15am to 1:45pm; learn more here

Program details: Brooklyn Dance Conservatory offers classes in ballet, hip-hop, modern dance, jazz and tap dance, all the way up to training on a pre-professional level. Le Meraviglie Art | Brooklyn Heights 

Le Meraviglie Art, a visual arts and culinary arts studio for young children, opened a spacious new studio this summer at 67 Atlantic Avenue, not far from Brooklyn Bridge Park. They will continue to offer after school programming at their original location on Montague Street, as well as at their new location.

Program details: This fall, Le Meraviglie will offer Art Young Creators Workshop: Process Art + Play at their new Atlantic Avenue location. Children aged 3-4 will immerse themselves in a world of creativity, exploring diverse themes and projects using clay, paint, recyclable materials, and more. Our class structure includes engaging stations for both individual and collaborative projects, as well as sensory play activities, offering a dynamic and immersive learning experience. The Fall 2024 semester will run from September 17, 2024 – January 7, 2025.

Padel Haus | DUMBO & Williamsburg

A cross between tennis and squash, Padel is the fastest-growing sport in the world! Basic gameplay and scoring are the same as tennis, but with the ability to hit the ball off of the wall (as long as it bounces first). Padel Haus has locations in DUMBO and Williamsburg, and will be offering youth programming this fall.

Program details: The kids program is designed to help boys and girls between ages of 6-14 learn the fundamentals of Padel and develop the proper mechanics and skills to play the game at the highest level – all in a fun and friendly environment. All skill levels welcome! Players are broken up by age group, grade, and skill level. In DUMBO, programming will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6-9 year olds from 4-5pm and 10-14 year olds from 5-6pm. In Williamsburg, the program will run on Mondays and Wednesdays: 6-9 year olds from 4-5pm and 10-14 year olds from 5-6pm.
