Go-to Brooklyn parent resources Macaroni KID Brooklyn NW and Brooklyn Bridge Parents have teamed up to bring you some of the best family events for Brooklyn families with a range of September events including back to school celebrations, touch a truck and bus festivals, block parties, street and music festivals, and more!

1. BRIC Family Day: Back to School! at BRIC

One more stop before you head back to your routine – BRIC Family Day: Back to School! This fun-filled event is designed to inspire creativity and excitement for the upcoming school year for your little ones, with lots of activities including notebook crafts, goal setting boards, coloring, friendship bracelets, photo booth, glassblowing demos, and scavenger hunt. Join them for a day of creativity, learning, and community as they celebrate the new school year!

    Cue the confetti and cheer, it’s the Environmental Education Center’s 9th birthday and you’re invited to our annual bash! Head to the Ed Center for a day full of celebratory activities, crafts and all the feels needed to ensure the best birthday yet. Programs extend outside with a 2pm Nature Walk, 3pm Pebble Beach Storytime, and 4pm Kid’s Bingo with prizes!
  • New York Transit Museum Bus Festival in Brooklyn Bridge Park

    The New York Transit Museum’s beloved festival of vintage buses and surface vehicles returns September 8! Explore buses from our vintage fleet, representing more than 90 years of New York City surface transit history. Enjoy photo ops, meet some of the bus drivers who help keep our city moving, check out our pop-up shop, and take in the view of the Manhattan skyline from the Emily Roebling Plaza underneath the Brooklyn Bridge. RSVP

3. Seaport Kids X Back to School Bash

4. Myrtle Ave Touch a Truck in Clinton Hill

Saturday, September 14 (Rain Date Saturday, Sept 21) | 10am-2pm  | FREE | Clinton Hill

Touch A Truck Day returns to Myrtle Avenue in September, bringing an opportunity for kids to get up close to and interact with all kinds of large trucks and vehicles! Big trucks, crafts for kids, music, and more – will fill the block on Clinton Avenue between Myrtle & DeKalb.

5. End of Summer Block Party in Bay Ridge

Saturday, September 14 | 3-7pm | FREE | 5th Ave Bay Ridge

Brooklyn Bridge Parents is partnering up with the 5th Avenue BID in Bay Ridge to host a big End of Summer Block Party on 13 blocks on car-free 5th Avenue from 68th to 81st Street. Come enjoy the many restaurants from all over the world and a block party with bouncy houses, arts & crafts, water play (weather permitting), 5pm bubble show, and much more.

 

6. Back to School Party at Montague Open Streets in Brooklyn Heights

Sunday, September 15 (Rain date September 22) | 12-4pm | FREE | For ages 0-12 | Brooklyn Heights

Join Brooklyn Bridge Parents x Mommy Poppins for their bigger than ever annual Back to School Party by powered by Community Offshore Wind during Montague Open Streets with 40 free kids activities, performances and more. There will be games, arts & crafts, soccer, bubble shows (2-3pm), face painting, kids fitness classes, obstacle course, DJ and much more. Live performances will include a kids concert by Hopalong Andrew (12:30-1:15pm) and a dance party by Hype Dance (3-3:30pm). Bring a swimsuit and towel for hydrant sprinkler fun and water play powered by Macaroni KID Brooklyn NW (weather permitting). Donate gently used books for ages 0-18 to Brooklyn Book Bodega at Books are Magic 12-3pm.

  • Brooklyn Americana Festival at DUMBO Archway

    The 10th Brooklyn Americana Music Festival takes place along the waterfront at The Dumbo Archway (free and all ages performances), Jalopy Theatre, and Superfine.
  • Brasswick: An Urban Brass Band Festival at Industry City

    Saturday, September 14 | 4-9pm | $15-20, free for kids | Sunset Park
    Brasswick is an annual urban music festival showcasing the talent of the vibrant and ever-growing brass band scene in the New York City area. Now in its sixth year, the festival’s main event has taken at the historic Industry City, with additional pop-up performances across parks in Brooklyn in the weeks before the festival! Food and drinks available for purchase from Industry City businesses. Rain or shine.

    • The 43rd Annual Great Irish Fair of New York
      Saturday, September 14 | 11am | FREE entry | Prospect Park
      Celebrate the halfway point to St. Patrick’s Day on September 14 at the 43rd Annual Great Irish Fair of New York. Taking place at Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Prospect Park, the fair hosts musicians, dancers and all things Irish, including a presentation on the Good Friday Agreement and its lasting impact on the Northern Ireland peace process.     • Art is Alive Festival

      Asase Yaa Cultural Arts Foundation is back with its eighth annual Art is Alive festival in The Space @ Irondale. The day will feature performances, workshops, and classes featuring art forms and artists from the African Diasporic experience. Art Is Alive was developed to alleviate the financial barrier preventing some community members from participating in the cultural arts. 85 S Oxford Street.
    • Flatbush Frolic

      The Flatbush Frolic is an all-day local street fair on Cortelyou Road (between Coney Island & Ocean Avenue) in the Ditmas Park neighborhood. Live music, great vendors, rides and games, kids’ activities, a pizza-eating contest, and dance performances.
    • 25th Annual Sunset Park 5th Avenue Street Festival

      Join the Sunset Park BID on 5th Avenue for 15 car-free blocks of family fun from 44th Street to 59th Street! There will be bounce houses, good eats, community organizations, and a variety of vendors to shop!

10. The 49th Annual Atlantic Antic featuring Playtopia family fun

The largest street fest in New York City, the Atlantic Antic spans 10 blocks of Brooklyn’s Atlantic Avenue with food and craft vendors, family fun, and amazing performances. This year, Playtopia with Mommy Poppins & Brooklyn Bridge Parents sponsored by Prospect Schools will be located between Hicks and Henry Streets in Cobble Hill near Brooklyn Bridge Park. Playtopia will be packed with FREE family-fun entertainment that includes MAJOR PLAY including a cardboard maze, obstacle course, balloon twisting, freebies, arts & crafts, interactive games, rock painting and much more for kids of all ages!
