NYC Ferry proposals – new routes, faster rides, and service between Brooklyn and Staten Island

For the first time in its 8-year history, NYC Ferry is proposing system-wide changes aimed at speeding up service and expanding access to more destinations. New Yorkers are invited to weigh in this summer through a public survey open until September 1 (Labor Day), with feedback helping to shape a final plan to be unveiled in the fall. New routes could launch as early as this winter.

The proposed changes would:

  • Split up the East River route into two separate routes in order to speed up trips
  • Create a connection between Brooklyn Bridge Park (Pier 6/Atlantic Avenue) and Manhattan’s West Side (Battery Park City and Midtown West)
  • Remove the Sunset Park and Bay Ridge stops from the South Brooklyn route, but extend it north to East 34th St.
  • Combine the Soundview and Rockaway routes, giving Rockaway riders service to Midtown, East 90th St., and the Bronx
  • Provide service between Brooklyn and Staten Island (Linking Bay Ridge’s 69th St. Pier to Staten Island’s St. George Terminal)

The public is invited to join a webinar on Monday, July 21, from 6:30-8:00pm to learn more and take part in the conversation. Sign up here.
