This Fall, GWYSL is offering 32 high-school-age girls the opportunity to play a weekly friendly game on a full field of 11 players each side, 90 minutes of play time within a two hour slot. AYSO-trained coaches and referees will keep the experience safe, fair and fun. The weekly games are Sunday mornings 8am-10am at the stunning Pier 5 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Dates are 09/14, 09/21, 09/28, 10/05, 10/12, 10/19, 10/26, 11/02, 11/09, 11/16, and 11/23. We also offer an optional weeknight “training game” once a week at either McCarren Park or Bushwick Inlet Park in North Brooklyn. Schedule TBD. The cost is $160 for the season. Financial aid is available for families in need.
About GWYSL
- It’s not club soccer. It’s not varsity. It’s AYSO! The Greenpoint Williamsburg Youth Soccer League is Region 1328 of The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). We have 700 members from U5-U19 and we mostly play in North Brooklyn. You may have also heard of wonderful big-sister Regions 473 in Park Slope and 611 in Manhattan.
- AYSO has Six Philosophies that separate us from other sports organizations. These tenets were created to provide a positive, fair and fun soccer experience for all our players.
- Everyone Plays®: AYSO’s goal is for kids to play soccer, so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game.
- Balanced Teams: We form new teams as evenly balanced as possible, providing a stronger learning experience.
- Open Registration: No tryouts, ever!
- Positive Coaching: A coach can be one of the most influential people in a player’s life, so AYSO requires that they create a positive experience for every player in AYSO.
- Good Sportsmanship: We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude.
- Player Development: All players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, to maximize their enjoyment of the game.
