Where to Play in Brooklyn: Arts & Crafts

Looking for places the whole family can play? For the fourth installment of our Where to Play in Brooklyn series, we are sharing places to drop in to make art! When the family is feeling creative, visit an art studio in Park Slope, Greenpoint, Bay Ridge, Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, or Prospect Heights!

The Painted Pot | Park Slope

The Painted Pot is a paint-your-own pottery studio that offers drop-in pottery painting, acrylic painting, and clay projects. They also offer workshops, special events, classes, private parties, and more. You can reserve a 90-minute session for $10 for either pottery painting or clay hand building, which is then deducted from your final bill. Reservations are required. Make sure to check out The Painted Pot’s sister studio, ClayHouse Brooklyn in Cobble Hill, which features wheel and handbuilding classes.

ARTUDIO | Greenpoint

For those busy parents who want to create with their kids but can’t commit to specific hours or simply creative souls looking for a third space to create and be a part of something great, ARTUDIO offers a paint wall, immersive installations, light tables, sensory rice grind table, structural art and an array of supplies to make whatever you desire! ARTUDIO welcomes children as young as 18 months, and offers classes, open play, and birthday parties. Open studio hours vary and you must reserve online. Open studio is $25 for the first hours and $10/hour after that.

Norma’s Art Studio | Bay Ridge

Visit Norma’s Art Studio in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for open studio time. Kids of all ages can drop in to create an inspiring art project. All supplies are provided. Norma’s is open 11:00am-6:00pm Thursday-Saturday and 11:00am-5:00 on Sunday. The studio fee is $8 and projects are between $3-$20. They also offer birthday parties and sip & paints.

Brooklyn Paints | Bed-Stuy

Brooklyn Paints is all about unleashing your creativity through the art of crafting. Their studio is a haven for craft enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re a seasoned DIY or a complete beginner, Brooklyn Paints invites you to drop in and experience the joy of crafting firsthand. Drop-in pricing starts at $25 and prices include all project materials and a 2 hour limit. They offer a wide variety of drop in crafting options including ceramic painting, slime making, wood crafts, canvas painting in all sizes with pre-sketches available, tie-dye, jewelry making, watercolor, and more! They also offer art classes for all ages, toddler art playgroups, birthday parties, mobile art classes and parties, adult craft nights and Paint & Sips. They are open 11:00am-5:00pm Wednesday-Friday, Saturday 11:00am-7:00pm, and Sunday 11:00am-5:00pm. Be sure to call ahead to make sure the studio isn’t booked for a private event at 718.683.9580.

Happy Medium | Greenpoint

A cafe, where you can also make art! Happy Medium hosts a monthly open studio for kids 0-6 years old. Families can sign up for their next HM Smalls event on June 21st from 9:00am-11:ooam, and find the schedule for future months here! The Smalls menu includes experiences like finger painting, play clay, kids collage, and more. Adults can choose off of this menu!

Private Picassos | Clinton Hill

Private Picassos is a place to make art. They offer classes, camps, parties and drop-ins for kids & adults. They offer drop in art making Tuesday-Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm during the school year and Monday-Friday 10:00am-5:00pm during the summer, perfect for ages 1.5 years and up! Children can pick from many fun art projects, such as recycled sculpture, styrofoam print making, faux stained glass, and much more! Happy Hour, where all $20 projects are only $15, is currently Tuesday-Friday from 3:00pm-5:00pm! They also have $10 Tuesdays, where all palette paintings are $10 all day. Little Makers Studio | Prospect Heights

Little Makers offers camps, classes, and parties in addition to open studio. Open studio, for children ages 2 and up and their caregiver, is available on weekends from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Families can choose 1 or 2 hour sessions. Check the schedule and reserve here. Open studio includes rotating art stations featuring a variety of materials and themes, where your child can investigate, experiment, and enjoy the freedom to create at their own pace. It’s the perfect opportunity for kids to explore their artistic side, meet other creative minds, and immerse themselves in the joy of making without pressure or perfection.
