Open waiting lists: no deadline, but a wait
Nine more Brooklyn buildings are taking applications right now — not for a lottery, but for a waiting list. The difference matters. A lottery is a one-time draw with a closing date; a waiting list is a queue you join and stay in until an apartment comes free, which can take years. There is no deadline, so an application filed today is never late. Income and household-size limits still apply, and all nine were open as of September 23, 2026. Each name below links to its listing on the state’s housing site, which is where you apply.
Five of the nine are Mitchell-Lama buildings, a state affordable-housing program that dates back to 1955. In the four Mitchell-Lama co-ops you buy a share in the building — a one-time purchase price, not a deposit — and then pay a monthly maintenance charge in place of rent.
Gorman Apartments | Brownsville
A Mitchell-Lama co-op at 1381A Linden Boulevard, with studios through three-bedrooms. Shares cost $11,354 to $21,875, and monthly maintenance runs $733 to $1,422. Open to households of one to six, with incomes from $54,257 to $162,210.
Harry Silver Apartments | East Flatbush
A Mitchell-Lama co-op at 828 Midwood Street, with one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Shares cost $27,000 to $47,000, and monthly maintenance runs $940 to $1,430. Households of one to six, with incomes from $64,981 to $119,296.
Jimerson Apartments | Brownsville
A Mitchell-Lama co-op at 1407 Linden Boulevard, where every apartment from studio to three-bedroom has a terrace. Shares cost $7,500 to $21,500, and monthly maintenance runs $760 to $1,558. Households of one to six, with incomes from $63,511 to $157,544.
Mutual Apartments | East Flatbush
A Mitchell-Lama co-op at 636 Brooklyn Avenue, with studios through three-bedrooms. Shares cost $10,051 to $31,648, and monthly maintenance runs $658 to $1,957. Households of one to six; the income limits vary by apartment size and reach $196,976.
Northbay Estates | Coney Island
A Mitchell-Lama rental at 2730 West 33rd Street, and the only building here with four-bedroom apartments. Rents run from $1,701 for a studio to $2,820 for a four-bedroom, with all utilities included. Households of one to eight, with incomes from $58,320 to $171,120.
Nevins Street Apartments | Boerum Hill
A rental at 50 Nevins Street, the closest of the nine to Downtown Brooklyn. Studios, two- and three-bedrooms, renting from $1,556 to $2,288. Households of one to six, with incomes from $55,885 to $112,800.
Utica Crescent | East Flatbush
A rental at 548 Utica Avenue with the widest spread here: studios through three-bedrooms, at rents from $784 to $3,158 depending on which income band an apartment is set aside for. Households of one to six, with incomes from $25,500 to $150,400.
Vital Brookdale | Brownsville
A rental at 523 East 98th Street, with studios through three-bedrooms renting from $1,150 to $2,776. Households of one to six, with incomes from $46,000 to $150,400.
The Rise (Vital Brooklyn Site J) | Brownsville
This waiting list is for accessible apartments only, at 1366 East New York Avenue — homes adapted for mobility, hearing or vision needs. Studios through two-bedrooms, renting from $1,408 to $1,811. Households of one to five, with incomes from $45,600 to $105,000.
