July was a full month at the table: Red Hook Focacceria started baking long-fermented focaccia on Van Brunt Street, Badshah Social brought chef-driven Indian street food to Park Slope, Yuan Is Here made its Brooklyn debut with Taiwanese night-market cooking in Downtown Brooklyn, and Greenpoint got lobster rolls and Vietnamese-Japanese pizza in the same few weeks. Still to come: sourdough bagels from Caputo Bagels in Park Slope in September, Chad Robertson’s Altbau bakery in Williamsburg, and Lidl’s fifth Brooklyn supermarket at 573 Grand Street in Williamsburg, opening Wednesday, August 26. Red Hook Focacceria opened July 11 at 421 Van Brunt Street, baking small batches of long-fermented focaccia and breads with 100% Italian flour. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. until sold out — arrive early.
Badshah Social | Indian | Park Slope
Badshah Social opened July 7 at 212 Flatbush Avenue in Park Slope, bringing chef Abhishek Sharma’s playful, design-forward take on Indian street food — chaat, griddle snacks and cocktails — from the A13 Hospitality team behind Swagat and Madam Ji.
Trudie’s Tavern | American tavern | Carroll Gardens
Trudie’s Tavern opened in early July at 524 Court Street in Carroll Gardens, in the former Buttermilk Channel space. From the Gertie team, the nostalgic New York tavern serves rotisserie chicken, raw-bar plates, house-baked pretzels and classic cocktails.
Saison | Bakery | Bed-Stuy
Saison soft-opened in early July at 434 Hancock Street in Bed-Stuy. Founder Sammy Rees grew pandemic-era backyard food boxes into an Instagram-famous bakery selling olive-oil tea cakes, madeleines and thumbprint cookies alongside vintage homewares.
Yuan Is Here | Taiwanese | Downtown Brooklyn
Award-winning Taiwanese chain Yuan Is Here made its Brooklyn debut at 25 Bond Street in Downtown Brooklyn, serving night-market classics from braised pork rice and beef noodles to oyster omelets, Taiwanese egg crepes and bubble tea. Open daily, 11 a.m.–10 p.m.
Love & Honey Fried Chicken | Fried chicken | Near Barclays Center
Love & Honey Fried Chicken, the Philadelphia favorite from chefs Laura and Todd Lyons, opened its first New York location at 229 Flatbush Avenue on July 23. The draw is honey-drizzled buttermilk fried chicken — the OG sandwich, a Nashville-hot version, tenders and wings — plus tater tots, cornbread muffins and a scratch-made banana pudding.
Zig Zag Oyster Bar | Oysters and seafood | Prospect Heights
Zig Zag Oyster Bar opened on July 28 at 406 Prospect Place, from the team behind Hart’s and Cervo’s, in the old Bar Meridian space. East Coast oysters, two seafood towers, peel-and-eat shrimp and a short island wine list. Most of the roughly 50 seats are held for walk-ins, and there is a patio.
Kings Co Imperial | Chinese | Park Slope
Kings Co Imperial opened its third New York location on July 27 at 357 Third Street — next door to Stone Park Cafe, which the same owners opened on that block in 2004. Soup dumplings, sesame shrimp toast and Beijing street noodles, plus a Sichuan crispy duck made just for Park Slope.
Shania’s Max Bet | Cocktail bar | Gowanus
Shania’s Max Bet opened on July 29 at 317 Third Avenue, in the former Dirty Precious space, from three colleagues who met behind the bar at Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club. Shock-pink walls, a mirrored ceiling and a bar panel set with some 20,000 dice. Grown-ups only.
Lileo | Georgian | Park Slope
Lileo opened on July 4 at 86 Fifth Avenue, serving scratch-made Georgian cooking — khachapuri, khinkali soup dumplings, walnut-stuffed eggplant rolls and cheese-and-spinach pies — alongside Georgian wine. The name comes from an old folk chant to the sun. Open daily.
Yellow Pear Coffee | Coffee and bakery | Park Slope
Yellow Pear Coffee soft-opened in July at 384 Seventh Avenue, an Asian bakery and coffee shop turning out pastries alongside espresso drinks.
Grimm Tavern | Tavern | Prospect Heights
The team behind Grimm Artisanal Ales opened Grimm Tavern at 659 Vanderbilt Avenue, a relaxed all-day room with Grimm beers on tap and a menu of comfort-food standards.
Khob Khun Cafe & Bistro | Thai | Boerum Hill
Khob Khun Cafe & Bistro opened in July at 226 Atlantic Avenue, bringing Thai curries, noodles and cafe drinks to a stretch of Atlantic that had none.
Part Two | Cafe and bakery | Bed-Stuy
Part Two opened at 406 Marcus Garvey Boulevard, a cafe and bakery serving coffee and pastries seven days a week, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum | Cocktail bar | Bushwick
The Museum, full name The Museum Bar + Gift Shop, opened in July at 1329 Willoughby Avenue between Wyckoff and Cypress — a natural-history-museum-inspired cocktail bar with specialty drinks and a small shop. Grown-ups only.
Bark BBQ | Barbecue | Bushwick
Bark BBQ, already a fixture inside Dumbo’s Time Out Market, opened its first brick-and-mortar on July 1 at 25 Thames Street. Central Texas-style smoked meats with a Dominican accent, from brisket to the sides.
Harbour Kafe | Hong Kong-style cafe | Williamsburg
Harbour Kafe opened at 172 Borinquen Place, a family-run cha chaan teng serving Hong Kong-style milk tea, iced fruit blends and craft coffee.
Doki Doki | Japanese | Williamsburg
Doki Doki opened on July 2 at 160 Havemeyer Street, a listening bar and kitchen built like a Japanese standing bar and crossing Japanese cooking with Latin flavors. Grown-ups only.
Sailor & Siren | Lobster rolls | Greenpoint
Sailor & Siren turned its pop-up into a permanent shack at 817A Manhattan Avenue at Calyer Street. Open Friday through Sunday from noon until they sell out.
Pizza 4P’s | Pizza | Greenpoint
Pizza 4P’s, the Vietnamese-Japanese pizza chain, opened its first United States location in the 50 Norman complex — house-made burrata, Japanese-leaning toppings and a long list of pies.
Red Hook Barrel Yard | Coastal New American | Red Hook
Red Hook Barrel Yard opened at 185 Van Dyke Street on Pier 41, an indoor-outdoor space pouring wine, cider and spirits made on site alongside a coastal New American menu.
Val’s | Diner | Red Hook
Val’s opened on Van Brunt Street in the former Fort Defiance space, a classic neighborhood diner and bar from three Red Hook hospitality veterans.
Cap’t Loui | Cajun seafood | Williamsburg
Cap’t Loui opened its Williamsburg location on July 17 at 280 Bedford Avenue, serving Cajun seafood boils by the bag with corn, potatoes and sausage.

Frenzie, a vintage-inspired wine bar serving New York-style sourdough pizza from the team behind neighboring Confidant, put its signage up at 129 Atlantic Avenue in July. No opening date announced yet, but it’s close.
Breeze | Sichuan and dim sum | Downtown Brooklyn
Greenpoint’s Sichuan dim sum favorite Breeze signed a 15-year lease at 590 Fulton Street, at the base of The Ashland — its second location and future flagship, expected to open this fall.
Wine bar from Popina’s James O’Brien | Wine bar | Williamsburg
James O’Brien, the restaurateur behind Columbia Street Waterfront favorite Popina, signed a lease for a yet-unnamed wine bar at Williamsburg Wharf, the new East River development at 484 Kent Avenue. Designed by Rockwell Group around a circular bar, it’s slated to open in 2027.
Compton’s | Sandwiches | Cobble Hill
Compton’s, the Queens sandwich shop known for oversized stacked builds and house-baked bread, listed a Cobble Hill location at 240 Court Street as “coming soon” — its first Brooklyn outpost beyond Greenpoint.
Altbau | Bakery | Williamsburg
Altbau, the first New York bakery from Tartine co-founder Chad Robertson, is putting the finishing touches on a 7,500-square-foot all-day bakery and café at 184 North 8th Street. It will mill its own flour on site and serve breads, pastries, sandwiches and coffee. The name is German for “old building.”
Lidl | Supermarket | Williamsburg
Lidl brings its fifth Brooklyn supermarket to 573 Grand Street on Wednesday, August 26, with a ribbon-cutting at 7:40 a.m. The German discount chain stocks private-label staples, European imports and fresh produce at low prices. The Williamsburg store will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Smør | Scandinavian bakery | Carroll Gardens
Smør is bringing its Scandinavian baking — cardamom buns, sourdough loaves, coffee — to 361 Court Street at President Street, taking over a former vape shop. It will be the third location for the bakery, after the East Village and Williamsburg. No opening date yet.
Caputo Bagels | Bagels | Park Slope
James Caputo, whose family bakery closed in Carroll Gardens this spring, is opening a sourdough bagel shop at 81 Fifth Avenue in September with Rafi Hasid of Miriam, next door. Expect open-face bagels, breakfast sandwiches and the pastries Caputo regulars will recognize.
Swaine’s | New American | Williamsburg
Chef Emily Swaine, formerly of Blue Hill at Stone Barns, is opening Swaine’s at 577 Lorimer Street this fall with her sister, in the old Pomp and Circumstance space. A hearth oven anchors the kitchen, with flatbreads made from freshly milled local flour and house-made pastas. Women-led from ownership to kitchen.
Chipotle | Fast-casual Mexican | Greenpoint
A large new outpost of Chipotle is heading to 885 Manhattan Avenue. No opening date announced.
Gotham Burger Social Club | Smash burgers | Williamsburg
Gotham Burger Social Club, the Lower East Side smash-burger favorite, has signage up at 216 Grand Street and is promising a full bar with this location.
The Chefs Agency | Prepared foods | Greenpoint
The Chefs Agency, the catering company, is opening a cafe and prepared-foods shop at 29 West Street in the fall.
Motek | Israeli | Williamsburg
Motek is bringing its Israeli and Mediterranean menu — hummus, salatim, grilled plates — to 80 North Seventh Street near Wythe Avenue.
Cheese Plate Brooklyn | Cheese shop | Williamsburg
Cheese Plate Brooklyn, which already has shops in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens, is listed as coming to 175 Kent Avenue.
La Mestiza | Latin bakery | Fort Greene
La Mestiza, a Latin bakery, is opening in Fort Greene this fall.
Whole Foods Market | Supermarket | Cobble Hill
Whole Foods Market is officially in the works for 182 Smith Street — the build-out behind the construction on that block. No opening date yet.
Whole Foods Market | Supermarket | Bushwick
A second new Whole Foods Market has been announced for 1224 Flushing Avenue, opening date to be announced.
New restaurant and marina at WNYC Transmitter Park | Greenpoint
Two local hospitality veterans, Josh Cohen (Jimmy’s Diner, Anella) and David Schmitt, are preparing to sign a 25-year license with the Parks Department to build and run a restaurant and marina with free public programming at WNYC Transmitter Park. No name yet; the public gets to review the designs at a hearing next month.
One Hanson Place Food Hall | Food hall | Downtown Brooklyn
Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment is bringing Cucina by Casa Tua into the ground floor of the old Williamsburgh Savings Bank tower, with a food hall planned for 2027.
Closings
All in One Deli Mart, formerly Peas ’n Pickles | Grocery and deli | Brooklyn Heights
After more than 30 years at 79 Henry Street on the corner of Pineapple Walk, the grocery, deli and produce market that most of the neighborhood still calls Peas ’n Pickles has closed. Owner Minki Lee’s family took over the adjoining storefront in 2012 and renamed it All in One Deli Mart, but the old name never went away.
Wasabi | Sushi | Greenpoint
The neighborhood sushi standby at 638 Manhattan Avenue served its last dinner on July 27 after 26 years. Owners Robby and Cristin Wijaya announced the closing on Instagram; they lost the lease and the building is going up for sale.
Mesiba | Levantine | Williamsburg
The Levantine restaurant inside the Moxy at 353 Bedford Avenue closed on July 19, a little over two years after it opened. The space is being kept on as a private events venue.
