KOKO Music has never tried to be big. It’s tried to be close. Founded on the belief that music lessons should feel like joining a relationship rather than booking an appointment, the school has stayed small on purpose — not to be exclusive, but so that every student can actually be known. When it’s the right fit, a teacher and student often stay together for years, not just a semester — and that continuity shows: a teacher who knows their favorite songs, their off days, the exact way they need a difficult passage explained. It’s a school small enough that a teacher can hear not just the notes a student is playing, but everything underneath them. The whole school, in fact, is just two rooms — each with a well-kept piano — and that’s exactly the point.
The roster reflects just how far that philosophy stretches. KOKO Music teaches piano, guitar, and voice to students ranging from three years old to eighty, including a number of advanced high schoolers continuing to grow as musicians. Whether a student is picking out their first five-finger melody or refining a piece for a conservatory application, the approach is the same: small class sizes, individualized attention, and teachers who treat every student’s progress like it matters — because to them, it does.
